Interesting blog.  Shame about the rucksack failure but you seem to have had a good walk. The abandoned building probably has some interesting history?  I like the Hallamshire Golf Club warning sign.  What should you do if you see an oncoming car at the same time  as someone shouts 'Fore'  ::)

Fascinating building and very picturesque.
Re the broken strap, on a leadership course I attended the other day it was suggested that emergency equipment should include a few plastic cable ties which can help with temporary repairs for many things including rucksack straps and also boot problems when wet could render ducktape ineffective. They are almost weightless and take up no space.

Yes it is...I'm not sure how I would have used them though in this instance; but there will be other times when they'll come in useful.
