Title: GR 221, Mallorca - Trip report
Post by: FTSTTLB on 12:52:39, 17/04/19
So to whom it may concern (others can just skip this one as well). After the historical hiking sensation of Hadrian's Wall and the natural splendour of Offa's Dyke Path I now have something less green and hilly on offer. The GR 221 or Dry Stone Route (Ruta de Pedra en Sec) is a trail on the Balearic Island of Mallorca. Modest mountains, wonderful olive terraces, sun and sea.
Here's a short summary about the what, where and how https://wp.me/p93xVa-3B

Sounds like an enjoyable trail. The blog post whetted my appetite to learn more - are you intending a longer, more detailed report?

Nice mini-write up.  Agreed... will you write a more in-depth report (and lots of pics)?  :)

Yes, same as my Hadrian's Wall and Offa's Dyke ones. I'll do a day by day trip report with info about each stage, the accommodation and some trivia.

As a fan of Mallorca, I'll be interested to see the full report.

Day 1: Pollença - Lluc https://wp.me/p93xVa-3J (https://wp.me/p93xVa-3J)

On this first day you leave the cosy town of Pollença and take the medieval road towards Lluc. You go from 50 metres above sea level to 700, via meandering paths, which give you some wonderful views over a couple of summits in the Tramuntana mountains, Puig Tomir being the most noticable among them. After passing through Binifaldó, where you can find the educational centre of the Serra de Tramuntana, you pass two colls. After that you descend to the Refugi de Son Amer and the monastery of Lluc.

A bit of a delay due to my honeymoon, but here's the second day

Day 2: Lluc - Tossals Verds https://wp.me/p93xVa-3V (https://wp.me/p93xVa-3V)

When we leave the refugi of Son Amer we're accompanied by ominous clouds. First you climb through a forest and once you reach the tree line you take a cobbled staircase, the ses Voltes d'en Galileu. You can spot a couple of snowhouses and pass the highest points of the entire trail (Coll des Prat and Coll de Telègraf). After that you descend via a rock path to the remote refugi of Tossals Verds.

Yet again, it's been quite a while, but I've finally found the time to finish part 3, one of my favourite days of hiking ever.

Day 3: Tossals Verds - Sóller https://wp.me/p93xVa-4a

From the green domain of Tossals Verds you take the high road to the only two lakes of Mallorca, where you walk on the shore of Cúber. From there on it's only a hundred meters up towards de Coll de l'Offre, offering a fine view over the bay of Sóller. After that you have to descend 800 metres, via the impressive camí de Barranc de Biniaraix. A few more kilometres lead to Sóller, one of the most popular towns of Mallorca.

Day 4: Sóller and surroundings https://wp.me/p93xVa-4q

We remained in Sóller for a couple of days and were able to explore the town and its surroundings. The first day we stayed in Sóller and also visited the museum of natural history and botanical gardens. The other days we made some beautiful hikes to Port de Sóller and Fornalutx, a small village with small, steep alleys in the valley of Sóller.
