PW?I think the fire in question is on the Winter Hill north of Horwich and east of Rivington.

Apparently it was arson.

Unfortunately I'm not surprised.  There has been massive news coverage of the fires, and it's going to be very attractive to anyone who wants to "make their mark" or "have an effect".

What an idiot, as if the emergency services don't have enough to do

Passed this one on my way back from Haworth earlier today  :(  :

My pic was taken from the A629 Dunholme area, looking roughly north and I've just had a google and the Beeb are saying it is on Catstones Moor near Cullingworth, West Yorkshire

The sad thing is, it's not a surprise. They're like Orcs. Can't abide seeing something beautiful without wishing to mar or destroy it.

We tried to go wild camping on Axe Edge Moor nr Buxton last weekend but there was a pickup truck parked on the top when we got there, not sure if it was a farmer or warden protecting against fire or someone protecting Harrier Hawk nests etc?

Anyone know if wardens / rangers would go out like this or was it just a random pickup which wouldn't of cared if we were going to wild camp?

In the end we ended up on Shining Tor and to be fair the views were probably better, so every cloud and all that :)

Yeah, weve been getting used to the burning Peat smell for over a week now coming from Saddlewprth and nearby Winter Hill. All roads around Winter Hill have been closed in an attempt to stop the arsonists and free up roads for emergency vehicles. Police are on duty at road heads.
This has lead to a major re-routing for cyclists in this weekends Ironman Triathlon.
Hopefully recent rain has helped but much more is needed as the fire is still burning in the Peat below ground.

And now Ramshaw Rocks/the Roaches   :(

And then this later one, that was caused by a campfire - lots of smoke on the A515 between Buxton and Newhaven after that, and apparently smoke smelled in Sheffield :(
