Just got back from my Knoydart Walk.  Firstly many thanks to Ian:

By writing that I realise I've made it rain for the next 6 weeks :(

You sure did mate but you forgot to mention the wind, hail and freezing temperatures.  Still had a great time and achieved most of what I set out to do O0.

First two days pictures and report at:

An enjoyable report with some really nice pics - but the weather seems to be permanently "merely showerry" at the moment - when its not chucking it down. Whats happened to the global warming and long, hot summers then?
I like Knoydart even if it is a bit damp and midgery -must put it on my list of places to have a really good wander through....
Some kind of happiness is measured out in miles

Nice one Phil,
sounds like you had a top trip despite the mixed weather. By the way it's started to rain now!
I was in Knoydart with a group about a month or so ago and caught the good weather but stupidly forgot to charge the camera batteries! :-[
Thanks for sharing your report and photos.

Back in the Lakes now and back to wearing tee shirt and shorts.  That third day was a good one though but boy was it cold for June.

Shorts? what are they? Forgot to mention that at least with this horizontal rain there are no midges. Hurrah!
But there appear to be no mountains either :(

… funny you should say that. No sunburn either.  Still when the weather was good, there was enough breeze to keep the blighters at bay.

Great report, I don't know the area at all so I think I'll have to dig out a map and plot where you went.

All that complaining about the weather and yet in most of the photos it looks great, and seeing and eagle and otters too,

Ridge
p.s. no offence taken

I agree Ridge,
Kirbstones complains about the weather but his photos look better than anything I've been out in over the past couple of weeks! ;)

You should check this area out Ridge - OS sheet 33 is a contender for the one with least tarmac on it :). Opportunities for multi-day backpacks are everywhere - it's somewhere I get to as often as possible.

Top photos Phil!

Cheers Guys

Was I really moaning that much!  I suppose it was typical summer weather - great in the glens, a different story on top.  Part of my problem was that I wanted to go as light as possible and that meant leaving my Paramo behind (far too heavy) and dumping all spare clothing, hats etc. which would have boosted the comfort factor somewhat.  Another layer and a warm hat would have made all the difference.

It really is a terrific place though and I'll be back soon.  But it's whetted my appetite again and I've already decided the next trip will be back to finish the mid section of the Cuillin  O0 although it might be a while before the family let me off the leash again.

We were only teasing about the weather!

It's been frustrating me too, the knock on effect of so much dry sunny weather earlier in the season I suppose.
And then there's the hint of envy - you get to be in Knoydart whilst I had to go up the Ben 4 times in ten days!
Never mind - Glencoe and Skye (and another trip up the Ben, but by Ledge Route this time, hurrah, a change as good as a rest and all that) next week, and improving forecast :)

So what constiutes the "mid section of the Cuillin" for you?

Maybe we should have a UKWF Skye meet-up!
