Thanks again for all the kind words, I just feel a bit of a Pratt  :-[

Well you're in good company here then.
Hands up all others who feel a bit of a pratt most of the time ?

Tough luck Sussam, I hope you soon up and about as normal. Ive had a few tumbles but fortunately up to now nothing that serious, but as you know very well, all it takes is a simple trip and depending on what you hit, depends the outcome. Gutted for you after all the planning etc, but still there for another day, take care.

Sorry to hear about your mishap Sussamb, I particularly dislike the upper part of that descent, Gamlin End, myself.   You're now immortalized on the pages of Grough! https://www.grough.co.uk/magazine/2019/07/02/injured-lakeland-walker-airlifted-after-fall-on-buttermere-fells

The issue was more the fact that overall it wasn't too bad, and I kept being bumped down the list for the only one emergency theatre.

Oh I see, shame you had to stay in so long but good news it wasn't as serious as I thought it was.

I've only just caught up with this thread. Hope the recovery continues OK.
I'm sure lots of us have had tumbles which could have been as bad if they happened at a different time or place.

Yes thanks, now recovering at home after a bit of a fight to extricate myself from Preston Hospital. Staff were excellent but the discharge system sucks  ;D

Sussamb. Were you insured? Are you able to recoup any of your costs for accommodation etc. I ask because I never insure for holidays in this country whereas it is generally forced on you when you book walking holidays abroad.
Glad to read that you are safely home and hopefully repairing okay.
It's all uphill from here.

Yes I have annual travel insurance but not sure how much of any costs it will cover for this. Will be checking later though in case  O0

Thanks for the newspaper article, certainly makes it real and as a person who has fallen quite a few times, I know how in a split second, it can be a hair's breadth difference from just getting back up and walking away, to a personal disaster.

Now that its happened have you had anyone yet complaining that you've wasted public money, going out on those hills alone, taking risks and so on? I'm surprised that the Mail hasn't had a pop at you!  :)

I had to fight tooth and nail to get both of my parents out of hospital so they could pass away at home as they had requested. It descended into farce with this specialist discharge sister not allowing my father to be discharged until he had been assessed for bed rails. It took five days for the bed rails to be fitted which were then promptly removed by the district nurse as she considered them to be dangerous. It was then a two day wait until an ambulance was available and he eventually got home at 11pm at night. As you say,the staff are excellent but the discharge system is in complete meltdown and its going to take far more than a shed load of money to fix it.

No not yet, I'll probably be told I should have taken paper maps and it wouldn't have happened  ;D
