A 'bit of a turnaround' rescue on Scafell
« on: 18:48:17, 27/07/20 »

A St Bernard has been rescued after collapsing while walking down England's highest mountain. Members of the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team (MRT) went to four-year-old Daisy's aid on Scafell Pike.

A team spokesman said Daisy had been showing signs of pain in her legs and was refusing to move.
St Bernard's are traditionally on the other side of such mercy missions - they were originally bred to rescue people in the Italian and Swiss Alps.
Friday's operation, which involved 16 members of the MRT, took five hours as rescuers carried Daisy on a stretcher over obstacles including a waterfall

Well, I hope the team were rewarded with a barrel of brandy for their efforts. It's heartwarming to know that MRT will help out animals as well as humans O0

This was on the news last night and they interviewed the family at their home in Lincolnshire. I wonder if Daisy is not used to walking up hills.

St Bernards were originally bred as guard dogs not designed for long hard treks.  She weighs in at 55 Kgs or 8.6 stone in old money.
Sadly, if it's hill walking they enjoy, the family may have chosen the wrong breed. They looked such a lovely people too.
So many paths yet to walk, so little time left

There is a weirdo down here who has one as an 'emotional support companion'.
It may be a Newfoundland, I avoid both of them.

Yes - saw this on the news. Hope that the dog recovers full mobility - although I think that it will be some time before the owners take it on the hill again - if ever.
