I'll pass on this one, Mike. The Shiant Islands look like a special place.
One of my visits to Sule Skerry coincided with the puffin nesting season - a few around in the daytime but most were in their burrows sitting on their eggs. But in the evening, the partners would come in after a day's fishing at sea - tens of thousands of puffins in the air, circling around the lighthouse. There was an outer circle of birds going in one direction, and remarkably, those closer to the light were flying the opposite way around it. A really stunning sight in the twilight, made more special by the six beams of the lighthouse cutting through the mist that had delayed our departure. And strangely, they hardly made a sound - only the fluttering of tens of thousands of wings. One of the most remarkable things that I have seen in my life.
