Whew, name a book?
Welcome, dawnymarie.
There's sooo many. You'll have to decide how strenuous, how long, how far north or south, how to get there and back, if alone or in a group, how wet and windblown is permissible, and so on.
In Scotland, at least, most tourist shops or bookshops will have booklets of local walks which are often easy and will also have books of high-level walks which grade into real mountaineering.
http://www.cicerone.co.uk/ has a good selection and show some text which might indicate the degree of difficulty for the walks.

I think walking books are in danger of becoming redundant. There are so many good, quick to use, internet sites available now that guide books are becoming threatened.
As a collector of books, I find this quite sad, but the internet is a better source for the type of question Dawnymarie has raised.
Have you checked the internet sites? Walking Britain and The Walking Englishman are two good ones.
Welcome to the site by the way!

i love the books i've bought - i like the fact that they have a lot of useful info in them including accomodation etc, and good to read about where you are going to be walking the next day etc. the internet is a useful point to start at, but you really cant take the internet with you on a walk like you can a book. one of the best bits on the pw was the meal in the pub after a day of walking, looking at and discussing where you've been and where your going the next day.....

thanks, that sounds good, especially the pub meal following your lovely walk. dm
