Fab story, I really enjoyed that (must be the sadist in me) - shame about the weather, although maybe it wouldnt be such a good tale.....
Just a point about the "no dogs" signs - as you were on a public footpath, you have the right to take a dog as long as its under control. There's a lot of signs around the North pennines in particular which tell you that on this or that particular bit of acess land, that dogs aren't allowed in order to protect moorland birds (they mean grouse, actually). The signs are usually where a right of way enters open access land and, in my opinion are deliberately misleading. If you look at the small print on the signs it does say that this doesnt apply on rights of way. Its a bit naughty, but then, these people really dont want you on their land anyway.
Anyway, I hope you've now managed to shake off the drug habit!

Sounds a bit like the big signs you see where footpaths pass through, or by, some bits of woodland in the Chilterns, which say Conservation Area, Keep out, Keep to the paths, blah blah. Sounds impressive, but it's nothing to do with what you'd think, nature conservation, no, it's because they're rearing pheasants, stupid semi-tame birds whose sole existence is just so they can get shot at one day.

Great blog.
I've got the PW north to south in my diary for summer 2015, nothing like advance planning. I'm hoping I'll still be young enough to make in and my children will be old enough to come with me and carry most of the kit.

I am prepared for the worst weather but hope not to get it and hope to have a light(ish) pack to enable me to do it in 14 days (have alllowed 16 just in case) mainly wild camp it along with a few campsites.
