Yeah, bit of an odd subject - but having got back from a nice Wild camp om Bleaklow to test out a replacement bivvy tent its rather surprised e that my best nights sleep in a tent has been spent on bare, sandy ground. Moorland grass to me is too lumpy bumpy and in sheep grazed areas can be prone to ticks, grass is nice but can be quite wet and proper beach sand is fun but in a wind its hisses against the tet fabric and keeps me awake.
Instead I pitched on an area at the foot of a gritstone outcrop close to Bleaklow head where I can test out sleeping in a strong, cool breeze on quite compact, sandy ground and because its so even its was really comfy under my mat
Any dos and don'ts for pitch sites that you stick to or have heard other people say?
