Squeaky was a bit better this weekend. We took her for a walk through Hope Park and Derwent Water when we got to Keswick so she could have a break before getting on the Buttermere bus. We were getting off at Lanthwaite Green.

Catbells and Robinson from Derwent Water

The weather was really nice but the wind was bitter and blustery even at low level.

We dropped down to Crummock Water

Low Fell from Crummock Water

We were heading up that way after going around Loweswater. First we climbed up to the path through Green Wood.

A look back at Whiteside and Grasmoor

Low Fell and Grasmoor across Loweswater

We stopped for our lunch but it was a blustery stop as the wind seemed to be blowing in every direction.

We were getting a bit tired now and we were ready to stop and pitch the tent. We still had a way to go yet.

On the way to Crabtree Beck

Looking back from the slopes of Sourfoot Fell

We'd followed a few trods here and there but it was a mainly off piste route up from Crabtree Beck.

The MSR on Sourfoot Fell

We had pitched here a couple of years ago. It was out of the worst of the wind.

Fellbarrow from Sourfoot Fell

I got our water from a beck a five minute walk away. Squeaky looked really tired so Beefy stayed with her in the tent. Tea over we had some wine and waited for the sunset.

The sun going down behind cloud

Cloud had built up to the west so the sunset was a bit of a non event.

Slight pinkness in the sky

We finished our wine, we'd enjoyed the day anyway. It was nice to be back out this way again using the Buttermere Bus.

It got cold overnight as predicted. My feet got cold again and they kept me awake from midnight. It looks warmer for this weekend coming thank goodness. We walked over to Low Fell after we packed up, we were away by 8.30. The wind was just as strong as the day before and just as bitterly cold.

Hazy view of Crummock Water

Beefy and Squeaky on Low Fell

We didn't hang around it was too cold. We retraced our steps back over the higher north top to the gate and the track down to Thackthwaite.

Fellbarrow from the path leading to Thackthwaite

We'd sacked Fellbarrow, we were sick to death of the wind, it was incessant and annoying.

Squeaky leading the way to Thackthwaite

We stopped for a brew and some food behind the wall before the path turns left to Thackthwaite. There was a bit of road walking from Thackthwaite. We turned right to get the bus from Lanthwaite Green. It was a shorter walk to Low Lorton but we would have a bit of a wait for the bus.

Beefy and Squeaky on the way to Lanthwaite Green

We still had a 20 minute wait for the bus when we got to Lanthwaite Green and we were pleased it arrived on time. It was freezing in the wind. A good couple of days. Day 1 was Booths - Hope Park - Derwent Water shore - Booths. Then Lanthwaite Green - Lanthwaite Woods - Green Wood - Maggies Bridge - Hudson Place - Askill - Crabtreee Beck - Sourfoot Fell 16km with 586m ascent. Day 2 Sourfoot Fell - Low Fell - Watching Crag  - Thackthwaite - Scalehill Bridge - Lanthwaite Green 10.5 km with 310m ascent . Easter beckons and we might get out for a 3 nighter   :)

Lovely pics and TR April  O0

Looks to be a lot more blue sky than down in the  south Lakes where I was.

But golly that wind was Arctic at times  :(

Lovely pics April.
I did wonder if you would camp at all with the temperature dropping so low.
Good to see Squeaky looking a bit better.

Very nice  O0
You looked to have had a great weekend adventure with some lovely photos to show us.
There is something about that area & the views (Low Fell etc) ..... it's like other parts of the Lakes but somehow less claustrophobic and just a bit more spacious.

Glad to hear Squeaky is perking up  O0
Only a hill but all of life to me, up there between the sunset and the sea.

Lovely pics April, that view from Low Fell is wonderful, and good to see the woofer on the mend.  That wind was "chilly" wasn't it, I think you're brave camping out in that.

Lovely photos, April - Grasmoor looks particularly dramatic.

I'm not familiar with Loweswater at all (although I did once help to shear sheep on the flanks of Sourfoot Fell many many years ago!) Looks like a nice quiet corner where you can get up on to the hills away from the crowds.

Wonderful photos as always... You'd never guess it was bitterly cold from those blue skies - looks like a balmy spring day!

Thanks for the TR. Always look forward to the virtual visit to the Lakes you provide at the start of the week.  :) O0

Thank you everyone for the nice comments  O0

Squeaky is much better now  :)

did you not pass any other walkers?

We did see a few near Loweswater. I was almost "caught out" early on Sunday morning by a fell runner. I was pleased I had removed my pink roller from my fringe before I left the tent.  ;)

Going anywhere further afield for your "three nighter"?

We decided to stick to the Lake District; we will be starting at Honister and ending up in Grasmere. Well that is Plan A, it could change depending on the weather or how we feel  :)

Enjoy your trip, April. Weather gorgeous here in Orkney, despite the wind.
