Slieveloughshannagh
« on: 20:48:15, 12/08/18 »
With the annual festival of flight taking place in Newcastle yesterday, Saturday's walk was going to be a short one as I was keen to avoid traffic delays on the way home. I decided to do a circular walk on my favourite Mourne mountain summit, Slieveloughshannagh. Slieveloughshannagh occupies a central location in the Mournes sandwiched in between the eastern and western ranges. Why is this mountain my favourite? Simply for the view of Lough Shannagh and Silent Valley. Starting from Ott car park, I picked up a good track towards the Mourne wall around Ott mountain. I climbed a stile at the wall before making the short traverse to the summit, 619m. When the summit was gained, views opened up of the higher Mournes in the east. I descended to the colony Slieveloughshannagh shares with Meelbeg before returning to the wall. Total distance was 7.5km.

Lovely mountains. I know next to nothing about the Mourne mountains; thanks for posting.
