Whernside and parking

Hi, I’ve done the 3 peaks a good few times. I took my 15 year old up pen-y-Ghent today she loved it. 3 peaker in training now!
What I would like to know, is how can we climb whernside if we park there. I’ve only ever climbed this hill as part of the 3 peaks
I would love not to have to take her down the same way we have climbed
Thanks in advance

It’s a sort of circular route so my best suggestion is to go up the “easy” way, start at the Viaduct, get to the top, have a break, turn around and come back down the same way.

You can park at the viaduct, go up and down the conventional 3 peaks route but when you reach the first farm after the descent (Bruntscar) Turn left and make your way back to the viaduct via Gunnerfleet. It comes in at around 9 miles IIRC

Here is the route I recorded in 2012

You could cut it short after dropping off the hill if you wanted.
