The Lakeland fells website
« on: 17:38:14, 05/12/17 »
Along with David Hall I see that another old favourite has hung up his website boots. Andrew Leaney's Lakeland Fells website ( http://www.leaney.org/ [nofollow]) is no more. His was part of the 'trilogy' of sites I always referred to when I started out doing the Wainwright's (his, David Hall's and Sean McMahon's). Actually, that's a lie. I think I found his site before the others when I first started out walking the Lakeland Fells.
Many thanks Andrew for the great route ideas, images and dedication over many years. You certainly brought me a lot of pleasure and many useful tips. I don't know where you've moved on to but hopefully you'll be carrying on walking and continuing with your superb photography.
Very best wishes.

This is very sad news. Andrews site was another great resource of walks in the Lakes, another one gone :(

Andrew Leaney featured in my poem as a tribute to David Hall and other website creators, authors, bloggers and vloggers.
Here is the thread

Thank you Andrew we owe you a lot  O0

JohnN, I think Andrew has moved to Scotland? See this site, beautiful photos.

Love the poem April-you managed to get everyone I follow in! And thanks for the link to Andrew's photo site. Yes, they are beautiful. If he has gone to Scotland then there'll be plenty more to view!

I don't wish to sound ungrateful as I've had many fine walks with help from these kind of websites that I find very helpful but I don't understand why they delete all the content when they know that just leaving it there and not updating will still be found very useful by people like me  :-\

Just seems a shame to spend years on building up great websites and then delete them  :(

It could well be the hosting costs, not all hosts are cheap (mine was £80pa a few years back) , and even if they are why would you pay for something you no longer use? Though I suppose you open a patreon and get hosting costs funded though you;d have to be careful about 'income'.

However you may still find the site (may be a bit broken though, depends how the site was built) on the way back machine - https://archive.org/web/ an archive of old websites from the internet.

I kind of wished when I dropped my old site years ago (not walking related) that I didn't ask someone from the community if they'd mind hosting a now static site for me on a sub domain.

Maybe if anyone is in contact they could suggest that?

These boots were made for walking so that's just what I'll do. After I've re-proofed them of course...
