I see it starts as a front brings heavy rain followed by wintry showers and gales apparently...not for the faint hearted ???

The forecast has improved.Snow and -3 on Fountains Hell on Tuesday evening with winds of 55mph.Good luck to everyone taking part in this barmy race.

Was snow on Fountains Hell what you might call a Freudian typo?

Quite possibly considering I suffered hypothermia in said place in July! As for being up there at nightime in mid-January......I will firmly stick to watching orange dots on maps.

Extremely tempted to go to the start on sunday, has anyone any experience of going and is it a mare to park? Also how long will it take them to get to snake pass? Fancy going up devils dike for a watch on some technical muddy sections and wondered roughly how long a wait i'd have!  O0

Well the challenger race is underway and they are starting to spread out, Jacobs Ladder will stretch out a few more!  It is a good idea to start the two races a day apart but I would have liked the Main race to start first and see whether any of the Challengers could have caught up before they reached Hardraw.

Does anyone know why the Challenger finish has been moved to Hardraw this year?
And I wonder if this means that the Hawes CP has been moved to Hardraw too...

Not sure why they have moved the Challenger finish but perhaps it is the amount of room required to accommodate both races.  The Hawes CP for the full Spiners remains at Hawes, from their website:-

"Fields and lanes have to be navigated on the edge of Hawes, then (for full Spiners) a sprint down the high street, west, towards CP2 at the YHA.  Spine Challengers have another 2km to the finish in Hardraw. Cross the high street and follow markers on some short road sections and through fields, to the race finish in tiny Hardraw."

No experience with the parking on race day but it should take the leaders around 2 hours to reach the snake road. The Challenger started around an hour ago and the leaders are now close to Mill Hill (0920).

Glad I’m not the only one who does this!
Just realised we are visiting my daughter next weekend so I will be severely restricted on the amount of “dotwatching” I can do right at the end!  >:(

This challenger race puts me in my place. :D  The two front runners are averaging over 5mph! Beats my average of 1 :(

Don't feel too bad I think that they are "ONLY" going at 4 mph now!  So where will the leaders be when the Spiners start tomorrow - I thought Malham at the start but could the leaders will be on the way to Horton?
