TR - Steel Fell from Grasmere
« on: 10:45:32, 13/12/17 »
My first trip report of a walk completed just a couple of weeks ago.

Full Report:
http://www.lakedistrict-walks.co.uk/2017/November/23.11.2017_Steel_Fell.html

Steel Fell from Grasmere
Distance: 7.46km (4.63 Miles)
Ascent: 568m (1863ft)
Time: 4 hours

The chosen route is up Cotra Breast - the ridge up from Grasmere. Clear path seen from the valley floor.

Three ridges coming down from the higher fells.

Helm Crag with Loughrigg Fell behind and a small section of Grasmere (lake).

The summit of Steel Fell.

Snow on Helvellyn and the other higher fells. You can just make out the summit shelter from here.

All lovely photos.
Cotra Breast is a killer, it is so steep and goes up for ever.

Not as bad as the front breast on Kirk Fell! Thats 800m of ascent in bout 1km distance. That was a killer!

Great report with lovely pics on your website  O0

I love the view of Thirlmere from Steel Fell  :)

We have been enjoying watching your vids on your you tube channel, great drone footage   O0

Now, up the front of Kirk Fell? I have never wanted to go up that way, it looks horrendous!
Hate will never win

I had plans to go up Kirk Fell that way some time but the clip hasn't encouraged me.

Great report and photos; Steel Fell is still on my to do list and I'm inspired to climb this fell on my next trip :)  Is the ascent straightforward? Thanks, Henry :)

Yes pretty easy to follow. When you get to Helmside and go through the gate by the National Trust Green Burn Sign, turn right to join the ridge and its a simple path all the way to the top.
