Lovely vid beefy, and I liked the music too - it matched the scenery, I think  O0

Could that walk/those conditions be done with microspikes or does it need full-on crampons?

we used crampons because there was a frozen compacted layer of snow underlying a soft layer of snow on top, the crampons gripped the under layer, microspikes were not adequate on this occasion, we always carry both,
you might get away with microspikes without the top layer of snow, but the traversing path does get rather steep, thats how i snapped the elastic part of my old ones they wernt up to the job

It could since there were people descending to Carlside Col from Skiddaw with no spikes at all!

Certainly the tourist path up to Skiddaw and back would be probably ok with microspikes but I would recommend crampons for the very steep route at times up from Carlside to Skiddaw. A lot of the people who were on the tourist route were not wearing any spikes but they did slip and slither about.

We'd put crampons on at Carlside Col when we hit hard compacted snow, we knew how steep it was a bit further up. There was a couple who were really struggling descending as we were going up. The man decided to skid down on his bottom and we thought we might end up being human skittles. He then changed his mind and tried to help his very unhappy and scared looking companion down.

Ahh, right.  Cheers A&B.  I have some microspikes but haven't had chance to use them yet so I'm trying to work out what conditions would be too much for them if I have a travel up to the lakes*  this winter.

Got a better PC so I can watch your vids on something bigger than my phone ;)

Superb as usual, sunshine, blue sky and snow there is nothing finer O0

@Mel, I went up the path to Skiddaw from Carl Side col  last Friday I got up ok but did get the feeling that my microspikes  were only just about coping. But as April says there were people coming down with no spikes at all although it did look hard work

...I forgot to ask, did you have to use your ice axes at all?

The lakes.... what an absolutely stunning part of the UK.  Hope you manage to share more of these great vids with us this year.

Really great stuff Beefy, am I am getting very strong hints of improved technique, not that I am an adept in this media, but it does seem that there are some improved editing skills being used.

Having once worked in a creative media, though very different from Photography, it is a sense that I am picking up, enjoying watching it happen and enjoying your stuff, where it is taking me and how you are developing.
