Harder than Edale to Crowden?

Sure ... I found Edale to Crowden quite easy, got to the YH there before it even opened so had to hang around for an hour or so.

As I recall, I found the second ( second last in my case) day of the OD fairly comfortable; although I was "walked in" by then.  A fair bit of ascent but the track is easy to follow and the last three miles is easy meadowland. I did it on a warm, dry June day which of course helped.
Conversely I made hard work of Edale to Crowden. I was conscious of the need to get the navigation right; it was a boiling hot day; I had a cold and it was day 1. Took me 8 hours. Get an early start and you should get the trip in one day ok; weather permitting

Joining this chat a little late, but I am Offas Dyke Path biased. It is about 200 yards from my office window!  A fabulous walk. Totally memorable. Tough in places but not as hard as the Pennine Way. There is a new Cicerone guide book out now which has a brilliant little map booklet in it. so you have a 1:25,000 map for the whole route. so much easier than a dozen OS maps or a Harveys Map which is a bit vague.  If you are walking south to north the National trail Guide has good little maps in it. Trailblazer if you are going North to South. Either way.... have fun ! O0

Yes, I enjoyed the Offas Dyke route, south to north, as well and had good weather. Today I'm looking at the Glyndwr's Way from Knighton to Welshpool, or perhaps the other way around? I may have a go at it later in the year. When you say from your office window, up north or down south?

Down south - situated on the outskirts on Monmouth - great walking territory!

Thought I would just post our itinerary as it's only 5 weeks until we start.

1st June Prestatyn,  PlasIfan
2nd June Bodfari, Llety'r Eos Ucha approx 12 miles
3rd June Clwyd Gate, Raven Inn Llanarmon 13.8
4th June Llangollen, Glasgwm 14.5
5th June Trefonnen, The Pentre 16.8
6th June Buttington, Moors Farm 16
7th June Cwm, Drewin Farm 14.5
8th June Knighton, Horse and Jockey 12.5
9th June Kington, Castle Hill 13.5
10th June Hay on Wye, The Start 14.5
11th June Pandy, Lancaster Arms 17.5
12th June Monmouth, Ebberley House 16.8
13th June Chepstow, Castle View Hotel 16.7 miles

We decided to drive and can leave the car in Prestatyn for £2 a day. Had a little trouble sorting out places to stay and also to eat.  Quite a few B&Bs seem to have shut in the last few years and pubs also.  The decision on which direction to walk was taken out of our hands after we'd decided on dates as S to N would have meant we would have been in Hay on Wye during the festival week and there was already no accommodation left! Baggage transfer was also problematic as there is no company that will do all the transfers unless you book the whole package through them at extortionate cost!  We are mostly getting the B&Bs to do it with a couple of taxis. Carrying all our own gear is probably out of the question now even if we wanted to because of my shoulder problems ( see separate post).

I've always quite fancied giving this a go, but this makes me feel its tough in places, or am I misinterpretting folks views on here?

It's easier than the PW but tougher than the Ridgeway if that's any help  ;)

Never done the C2C but would think as you cracked that then tackling OD should be fine  O0

As I've already done the C2C I'll let you know in a couple of weeks which is harder!

Sussamb, you should consider giving c2c a go O0 . RR, it will be interesting to hear your views, though I guess the toughest path is always the one you're actually doing. ;)

Well the C2C was 6 years ago, I was only 52 then   ;D  so age might be a factor now! On the other hand it was only the 2nd LDP I had done, this will now be my 6th.

Just completed our 4th day N to S.
Saturday and Sunday was ideal walking weather on the Clwydian Hills with great views. Today was a long trudge in quite heavy rain most of the day. Although we did get a bit of a break mid to late morning and just as we got to the aqueduct. I think someone on here said they remembered a lot of stiles a few years ago and that they had probably now been replaced. I can confirm they haven't so far!  >:(  And they are definitely made by men for men, or I'm getting shorter each year  ;D
