It had dropped to below freezing overnight and there was a thick frost on the tent in the morning. It was sunny again and when the sun appeared over Robinson it soon warmed up the tent as we had our breakfast.

High Stile and Red Pike bathed in sunshine
Beefy got Willo out for a flight, the wind was lighter than it had been yesterday.
Fleetwith Pike, Gables and Scafell Pike
We packed away our gear and we were away by 8.20. We had planned to go over Knott Rigg and Ard Crags but I was wondering if the wind might put us off. The wind was putting us off alright as we walked across Buttermere Moss to begin our descent. Right in our faces
The groove and start of the steep route down to Newlands Hause
I'd never done this path before either up or down. It wasn't pleasant to descend, very steep at times and awkward terrain. It wouldn't be too bad going up it, not great for a descent.

At Newlands Hause
By the time we got down to The Hause we had had enough of the wind and turned left instead and walked down the road to Buttermere. It was bliss, out of the wind and in the sun. We thought we would go over Rannerdale Knotts. There were no cars on the road for most of the way until I mentioned there had been no cars on the road. Then there were quite a few!

This is on the Never Again list.

At Buttermere we took the footpath up Mill Beck.
A lamb that hadn't realised the sun had gone in
It must have been cold for these little ones overnight and it looked like it had been sunbathing
We took an off piste route to escape from potential limpets when we were going up to Low Bank. The wind was getting stronger and it was bitter. We stopped at the sheepfold to have a brew and some food and a rest.

The cloud had built up and the sunshine disappeared. We decided to sack Rannerdale Knotts and get an early bus back to Keswick as we were fed up of the bleddy wind.
On our way down to Buttermere
We got on the Honister Rambler and it had difficulty getting by the cars parked on double yellows on the journey. The cars were on the double yellows at Buttermere and near Hawse End. Some traffic wardens were slapping tickets on them all. Be warned, you will get a parking ticket even on Sundays in the Lakes. The bus driver mentioned to the wardens about the cars in Buttermere and the wardens said they would be going there too.
Day 2 was High Snockrigg - Newlands Hause - Buttermere - Sheepfold on Low Bank, Rannerdale Knotts - Buttermere 7.64km with 211m ascent.
When we got to Keswick we had an hour to kill so we went into Mrs F's Fine Food Emporium and had tea and cake. Chocolate Fudge Cake. Delicious
Next weekend, Scotland here we come.
Or we might be back in the Lakes if the weather is poor up in Scotland
