He really pushed himself over the last ten miles and at one point it looked like he was going to run out of time but a very quick run to the Cheviot and back helped him claw back some time.A fine performance by a world class athlete.

Congratulations John on your Pennine record! He'll be thinking like Sabrina 'Next year I can beat that time'! maybe just maybe...

I did notice this morning he had beat the record, incredible speed for the last bit over the border ridge  O0

Amazing athlete, well all of them are. I would struggle doing even 20 miles in one day never mind doing it again the next day.

John has now posted his report of the Pennine Way.  Makes for very interesting reading.  What a determined man, how he kept going to get the record is amazing.  Well done John is all I can say and well deserved.

Yes a good read and understand the issues he had. I still wonder why he went a different way at Malham albeit no shorter then the usual route.

Which way did he go at Malham?

Instead of going up the main road and through the gate on the right to approach the cove I think he went over the bridge in Malham (see below), but definitely he then went up the road that is the first left to then cross Malham Beck later and then to join the "normal" route to go up and over the cove. No shorter but I couldn't understand why he went that way, it must have been deliberate.
I can't recall if he stayed to the right of the beck approaching Malham and then went up the road or whether he joined the main Malham road and then went over the bridge to go up the minor road on the left.

The track is still on line if you go to Malham you can see where he went on the map.

Harland, yes I see what you mean. No idea why he went that way, can only think one of his pacers suggested it, there is clearly a path that way.
