Here's a really enjoyable walk I did this summer (OS map 184) …

(1) At Salisbury station, take the west exit (via the car park), and continue west past the car showrooms etc. to the Churchfields footpath through the woods. After the footbridge over the river, take the path towards the A3094. At the A3094, cross directly over to take the track and path alongside golf course. At the racecourse, go a bit to the right and cross the racecourse to find minor road.

(2) Follow minor road (very little traffic) to Coombe Bissett, to take lunch at the Fox & Goose. Then follow the eastbound path along the valley, and take a slight left turn uphill at Homington Down. Cross the road to take the track towards Dogdean Farm, and then left along the Avon Valley Path to the southern edge of Salisbury.

(3) Keep going in the same general direction (but note there are some steep uphill and downhill bits and a busy road or two to cross) until you reach the west end of the Cathedral. Have tea at the Cathedral or nearby. From there it's about a mile back to the station.

Good views / photo-opps:
--- at the top of the golf course, looking back towards the clubhouse
--- on the road to Coombe Bissett
--- along the valley after lunch, especially the last bit looking down towards Homington village
--- at the southern edge of Salisbury, looking back over the fields
--- on the approach to the Cathedral.

Total distance about 7 - 8 miles, doable as a daytrip from London.
