TR under and over the M25
« on: 20:49:20, 06/04/20 »
This morning my life hit a new low, I was doing the ironing and watching Homes Under the Hammer.
What is my world coming to?

So this afternoon to redress the balance Ridgedaughter and I went for a local walk.

10 minutes road walking takes us to Trent Park county park at Cockfosters. This is so local but today I actually found a path I've not walked before.

We then joined the London Loop for a little while.

Before turning off on another new path.

Then a little more road walking before cutting across fields.
A lot of the paths through the fields here run between 2 hedges

A beautifully positioned bench.

Across a road, down a bridleway and then an underpass under the M25

A permissive path allows you to avoid a narrow, and usually busy, lane

There are a series of small, shady ponds amongst the trees.

Views south towards London with Canary Wharf, the City and the Shard on the sky line.

A bridge takes us back over the M25

Rejoining the London Loop we headed to a familiar landmark on our local walks, the obelisk is the point at which we cross from countryside to the world of dog walkers.

We then passed this field of a strange red crop. Anyone know what it is?

A really good afternoons walk and perfect weather.

Thanks sunnydale and Dovegirl

There were a whole series of the ponds in a fairly narrow strip of woodland, I will have to go back sometime and explore them some more.

Thanks Richard. I think the blackthorn is particularly spectacular this year, I've had to try to stop taking too many pics of it.

I did take this one today, which I forgot to put in the TR. My phone was almost touching him before he flew off.

Thanks April

Across the north of London the M25 is far enough out that it cuts through the countryside.

Thanks Richard. I have so many shots, as I dared to get closer and closer to him, I could make a flick-book.

Nice pics Ridge O0
The path through the trees reminds me of April's picture of a path through the trees which just goes to show that a thin path through trees looks the same wherever you live ;)

Thanks Ridge, I particularly like the picture of the hedge-enclosed path.
When my past work took me to that area I enjoyed a few lunchtime wanders from the Hadley Lane car park on the north of Trent Park.

I didn't realise the area beside the M25 was so pretty  :)

I can confirm it April. Some of the circular walks I've done in south-west Hertfordshire have crossed the motorway. It is a stark contrast to come from following an attractive path or lane to going over eight lanes of cars and lorries with overhead gantries before returning to countryside again. I wonder if the drivers see me and think to themselves, I wish I was out there doing that instead of being stuck behind this steering wheel. But the noise is often intrusive on a walk, it can be heard from considerable distances.

Thanks Fernman.

I often see vans parked up in the laybys on the road to the north of Trent Park, it is a popular spot for people who drive about for a living to stop for lunch. It is also a popular spot for them to dump rubbish which I'm sure you wouldn't do.

Don't talk to me about dumped rubbish  :tickedoff: Flytipping is a shameful problem in my borough.

Something I noticed during my walk last week (TR suburban ramble) was that many people still seem to think it is OK to tip their garden waste over the fence into public green spaces. Our council has a charge of £75 for collections, which I refuse to pay. Instead I simply save all of mine in old compost sacks which I take to the Civic Amenity Centre three times a year.

P.S. The name Ferny Hill at the western end of Hadley Lane always used to delight me when I passed it  :)
