It was cold in the blustery wind. Back to winter as I walked from my front door again. Some pavement walking to start then some road walking.

On the road to Wetheral

Wetheral village

Dropping down to the river Eden

The River Eden

The building is Corby Castle

Corby Castle caves and waterfall

No waterfall today! I walked along the riverside path for a while then took the path that almost doubles back in Wetheral Woods toward Wetheral Priory

Wetheral Woods

Wetheral Priory Gatehouse and church beyond

More pavement walking to get me to a footpath, I'd not been on it before.

The Lake District Fells seen in the distance

The north Pennines

On the way back to the village on the road

More pavement walking and back home, the joys  :D 8 miles and a bit of a better walk than Saturday. I can't wait for next weekend to do more of the same  ::)

8 miles in that bitter cold, well done O0

I like the look of the Corby Castle Caves.  Can you get to them for a poke about?

That looks like a nice little mooch - you'll know every blade of grass by the end of all this  :D

Nice photos, April - I love the Eden valley. The colour of the sandstone is very striking.

Edit - looks as if you could walk for miles along the banks of the Eden.

Sadly not  :(

I will do it in reverse next time, so I will know the grass backwards and forwards  :D

It is  :)

You can, in theory. I tried a few years back and had to walk through mud a foot deep for quite a while until I gave up  ;D

Really surprised by how quickly our local mud has dried out - one of the advantages of porous limestone.

Looks lovely by the River Eden     :)    When I stayed in Carlisle some years ago, I found the red sandstone very striking

There is another set of caves, Lacy's Caves, further upstream.  The are accessible as a PROW goes right by them.  Unfortunately they are probably just out of your reach under the current rules.  My route is here https://osmaps.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/route/1914709/121129-Long-Meg-Lacys-Caves

Looks a nice walk April

That is a bit of a stretch  :D Most of it was on pavement or road  :)

I guess we will be seeing more of it too then.

Yep  :D

The River Eden goes on for miles but I've posted pics before of the walk to Carlisle City Centre along it. I might not bother with any photos  :-\

Yes a little too far to walk there.  :(

But not Wetheral/Corby. looks nice  O0

I might take some shots from Warwick Bridge and near Corby at the weekend  :)
