ViewRanger. It is free unless you want subscription mapping. It includes Buddy Beacon which allows your location to be displayed on a map on the VR website.
An update on this thread:
A week ago I contacted ViewRanger to query that although I had logged in, when I followed the instructions for people to see my location on a PC by entering my username and PIN in the fields on the map page on the PC, it continually told me "User name not found".
VR support replied to say I had not yet sent my beacon, to do which I had to click on the green + button at bottom right of the map, select Buddy Beacon and Send now.
When I eventually got around to doing this, the app said This is a premium feature, £24.99 a year.
So... I very reluctantly created a Google account and downloaded LocaToWeb from PlayStore, the only way I could get it, and it cost me 89p.
It works very well I have found (although it is dependent on a data signal), it will track my route, and save it on Google Maps, with a choice of road, satellite or terrain. Routes can be made private or public. The important thing for me is that the route can be seen on a pc in real time or later just by logging in on the LocaToWeb website with the email address and password I registered with, so that those at home can say, Look, he hasn't moved for two days, shall we get the insurance papers out?
All in all this suits my requirements. I'm in two minds as to whether to terminate the Google account, at first my phone was bombarded with popups from them but I think I've now stopped most of the permissions and I've successfully disabled Mail.
