Off gridder rescued from a highland cabin
« on: 13:29:28, 05/02/19 »
A man who was taken ill in Scotland, activated his emergency beacon and the signal was received in Houston, Texas... :) https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-47129148
A night under silnylon. Doesn't have the same ring to it.

Nice to know that the system works.
And extremly quickly by all accounts.
Wonder what it is given past interest on this forum.

Indeed it`s a small world..not sure what you meant by your last sentence though.

I think that BBC Radio Scotland just said that it was the Spot system.

I've got a spot, never had to use the SOS but the messages go through pretty quick

Spot works really well - this is a 'snapshot' of taking the boat from Hull to Plymouth.

Is that with the extreme tracking? Im using the 5 mins interval and it's working great for hiking

If I remember it was 30 minute intervals and we were doing about 6-7 mph.

I would have thought that 5 minute updates at 3mph is a bit unnecessary (every 400 yards) but that the benefit of having it adjustable - suits everyone.

My SatMap GPS was set on updates every 2 seconds (which is not much more than every step) so I de-sensitised it to (I think) 20 seconds. Makes the battery last much longer.

I upload my logs to other sites so the higher track rate gives a better overview, yea it's great it's adjustable to suit everyone's needs, the live tracking is very good too

Monsieur de enfield appears to be stuck in the North Sea, should we call the coast guard?

Thanks for the concern - I made it around to Plymouth (after being 'pulled over' by Border Force checking for immigrants, and responding to a mayday call off Norfolk)

I kept all of the tracks, that example was just such 'page'.
