{TR} 6 Edges walk - with added wind factor!
« on: 21:49:00, 01/10/12 »

On Saturday, I met up with 'wild moon' (Carolyn) and Amanda21 (Tracey) and the three of us set out on a long walk which took in 6 of the Peak District Edges; Birchen Edge, White Edge, Froggat Edge, Curbar Edge, Baslow Edge and finally, Gardom's Edge.

We parked in the public car park adjacent to the Robin Hood Inn at Baslow (which is free, BTW) and set off under fairly sunny skies, albeit a little later than originally planned.

It wasn't until we got onto Birchen Edge that the strength of the wind became apparent and from that point on, we were exposed to it for most of the 14 mile route!

If you've been on the Edges, you will know that there is nowhere to shelter from the weather and even the rocks wont protect you from relentless strong winds!  Despite this we had a fabulous day and were still out enjoying ourselves as the sun was virtually setting. O0

Anyway, just a few pics of our day.......

Always a great walk along there whatever the season, whatever the weather. Nice photos & you managed to get one of a snake, now that is impressive. O0

Another lovely report about  what looked like a superb day in the Peaks Sunny.  :)    :)

Lovely tree photos, no surprise there.

The super snake photo was a surprise.  :o

But not as much a suprise as the size of Carolyns house that she was pointing to!  :D

Cheers,

By coincidence, myself and the missus where up on Curbar Edge Saturday trying desperately to remember the names of all the edges! We actually found some shelter from the wind under some rocks on the edge but only after much searching and considered ourselves quite lucky. Looking down the valley into the distance it's quite surprising to see just how steep sided a valley Chatsworth house is actually in. Great photos and trip report by the way, very jealous of the adder siting. Not a big fan of doing trip reports myself, never done one, but I may just be tempted to do one of Saturdays day out for reasons that will become apparent!

Always love walking the edges, great views and plenty to keep you interested on the walk. I keep saying that I'll walk from Moscar Lodge to Robin Hood, all along the edges for about 13 miles - just not got round to it yet. Great photos - love the one's as the sun is setting O0
