Title: The lands South East of Bath
Post by: Innominate Man on 23:51:03, 04/04/19
Twice the last couple of months I've had the pleasure of going to this area of the country but unfortunately it was work related and didn't have any time to see much.
Travelling into the area on Monday afternoon I was struck how fabulous it was (it was a warm sunny day which helps). I don't really know the area but taking a relatively 'minor' A road between Bath and Warminster, I saw enough to whet my appetite.
Contouring round a hillside the short drop into the valley to the east revealed a railway track and canal almost parallel. Perhaps in the more advanced months this view would be hidden by foliage.
It reminded me of a cross between the Calder Valley and the Cotswolds (without the crowds associated with the latter).

It certainly gave me some ideas for a future foray into a part of the country I know very little about. Good excuse to go because Mrs I has said she fancies a few days in Bath (at least that's what I thought she meant !)
Is this local for anyone and do you have any recommendations of good walks ?

Like you I was there on business several years ago.  Stayed at Limply Stoke.  Took a short stroll out in the evenings.  As  result I took my wife back to the area and we ended up walking the Kennet and Avon canal, from Bath to Devises.  Beautiful tranquil walk with plenty to see and good pubs to stay in, along the way.

I saw the sign for Limply Stoke & perhaps that was the canal I could see. That sounds a good idea for a walk.
