We went into Northumberland on Sunday starting from Greenhead. It was cloudy but dry and not much wind. It was very cold when we started and we added a layer.
Autumnal view from near Thirlwall Castle
We were walking along the Hadrian's Wall path eastward to Cawfields
Thirlwall Castle
A very nice black cat at Thirlwall came over for a fuss and followed us for a little while
Black cat and Thirlwall Castle
There were a lot of cattle about during the walk but none of them showed any interest in us.
Walltown
More autumnal trees
The north Pennines seen from Walltown
We walked up to Walltown Crags and followed the wall

Northumberland's Striding Edge!
We stopped for our lunch near Turret 44A. We didn't sit for as long as we wanted because we got cold and wanted to get moving to warm up.
We encountered more cows on the way to Cawfield; they had calves with them and we kept our distance from them. Again no problems, thankfully. We had to pass quite close by one mum and baby because they were so near the path. She kept her eye on us but she didn't seem to be very worried and there was no aggression from her.

Along Haltwhistle Burn
Lovely colours
We thoroughly enjoyed the walk down the burn
The magic tree
It is always a relief so see the tree is still ok and the latest storm hasn't damaged it
It looked rather splendid in its autumn colours
For those wondering why it is called the Magic Tree, just look at all them pixies
We really enjoyed the walk, much nicer than yesterday and it was a lovely way to finish, down the burn. We still had an hour till the bus so we walked to the railway station and sat there for a while then walked along the main street to the end of the town near the bypass to get the bus. Our route was Greenhead - Thirlwall Castle - Walltown Quarry - Cockmount Hill - Cawfields - Haltwhistle Burn - Haltwhistle - Town Foot 15.2km with 357m ascent.
