Hi everyone,
this is my first post here....I'd appreciate your thoughts if you can help.

A friend and I have it in mind to go and do a couple of days in the Cuillins next year.
We'd like to walk/scramble the length of the range, and bivvy somewhere high up overnight, but neither of us want to get involved in any real rock-climbing or abseiling as we have no knowledge/ability of this & will be taking no "technical" gear anyway.

So, is it possible to see close-up this great range, maybe visit one or two accessible peaks, while maintaining a fairly high level (altitude-wise) throughout the walk, without putting ourselves in mortal danger, or am I asking for something that just doesn't exist?
Like the other guy that posted on the Cuillins, we've done Crib Goch, but now want to crank up the level a notch or two.

Cheers,
David

Big welcome wellerchap.

The Cuillins have been covered end to end and side to side by books, leaflets, websites, etc.  This forum may a good starting place.  Also for starters:

Hi again wellerchap..,as i have'nt walked/climbed the mountain your going to do i can't offer much in the way of advice but i know for sure that there are a good few what i would call experts on here that have been to where your trekking to and will give you alot of what you'll need to know; by the way can i ask about your experiance i know you said you know nothing of using climbing ropes but have you done walks of this nature before? i can however offer a little advice on bivvying i supose as ive just spent two nights bivvying in the Langdale valley in hail stones and extremley windy and rainy weather and i did enjoy it, it is very hard to get into your sleeping bag though especially in the rain and mud, the trick is to crawl in backwords and try and slip into the bag at the same time without getting wet or full of mud which i did but in dryer and better weather i supose you could get in your bag propely outside the bivvy and inch forward untill your in right, and getting out whilst the ground is muddy i worked out that its easier to put your boots on your hands and put your feet on the bivvy's zip down door to save your hands and feet getting full of mud, did you mention what time of the year your going? Anyway sorry i cant help you out on anything else.

thanks for the replies everyone...great food for thought.
We don't have a specific time as yet and/or any solid plans...we're still at the reading-up stage.
My pal's ordered a good book which he will study & I guess based on that, and advice from others we'll decide if it's a goer.
Neither of us are overly experienced (Crib Goch, Striding Edge, Sharp Edge done), so don't want to tackle it if it's an absolute no-no....we may have to settle for a couple of days of ascending to the ridge to different points and scrambling along. We're planning early to make sure we know what we're doing's OK.

That's the best start.  Mt Rescue guys from over there have tales to tell as this range/ridge can be very deceptive.
I think this next one will be the top ...

The Cuillin Main Ridge can be a little difficult in places but is doable providing you have a good head for heights. There is a bit of climbing but I wouldn't consider it to be any higher than the "difficult" grade,ie exposed but not technical.I soloed it over two days in the eighties and it was an enjoyable experience.I believe one section now has a fixed rope in place so you could always attach a jumar for added protection and even get your partner to top rope the second man if he dosen't feel safe.Bivvying on the ridge is okay and you will be doing when the weather is settled as the rock is very slippery when wet and best avoided when in this condition.

I would advise anyone who find Strding Edge to be uncomfortable to leave the main ridge well alone, its a big step up in terms of exposure.
