Well Ive just recieved a pair of Alt-Berg Defender High Liability boots, £65 from e-bay, brand new with all the extras. These are a none lined, as in Gortex, leather boot. Size 10 Wide.
Feel very comfortable, good support. Will be putting them to the test this weekend up on the moors around Haydon Bridge, a very muddy walk. Fingers crossed!

Just wonder why there are so many Altberg boots for sale second hand? I thought they were well regarded on this site  :-\  Was thinking of trying Altbergs when my current Brashers wear out.

People are given them for their job role.
Armed forces did/do dish them out along with certain roles in police forces etc. Probably others.
They might be due a new pair after a period of time and there is nothing wrong with their current ones so sell them on. Or leave their role and take what they can etc.
I wear them in my job role but for some reason never thought about wearing them out hiking etc.

I don't think there's any more for sale than any other brand and as already stated the vast majority seem to be military and police boots. The Altberg Walking/Hiking boots seem to be pretty thin on the ground by comparison.

I think you'd be surprised by the number of people who buy new walking/hiking boots full of the best intentions and maybe use them once or twice before deciding it's not for them and throw them in the cupboard. Time passes and eventually  they come across them again and decide to sell.

There does seem to be a higher proportion of second hand women's walking/hiking boots for sale so maybe the Imelda Marcos shoe collecting disease is responsible for that.  ;D

The best advice I can give to anyone looking or thinking of buying is to go to one Altberg's Premier retailers to try some on and get properly measured so you know exactly what size and more importantly width fitting you need then keep your eyes peeled for a bargain in your particular size.

Bargains do occasionally appear but you do need to be patient and wait for the right boot in the right size and condition at the right price to appear for sale. The savings can sometimes be huge when compared to the cost of buying brand new.

My Altbergs for work were around £30 I think. Listed as "used" but looked brand new.
Gone through 2 pairs in 8 years. The tops were fine just he soles were gone.
I wish the resole service wasn't so expensive. £65 to resole or get a newish pair for £35 (if you bide your time and keep an eye out)?
I end up chucking the old shoes out. Not worth the cost of the resole.

I am not saying this is the case with Altbergs. Though, I think some buyers may ignore the importance of the width fitting.
I have tried Medium on in my size and they don't feel comfortable. Tho wide and extra wide is perfectly fine.
Also, the 2nd hand ones on ebay might of been purchased pre-owned and there is no returns policy for the buyer. Hence they sell them on again!
