Luckily the 'foward party' had [censored] off by the time I got down from CG so there are no pics - I think they may have won the prize if there'd been any.
Pete, I thought you had holly on your head like a Chrimbo pud.
(The censored actually makes that look worse than the word I actually used O0 ;D )

Max ,i'm going to have a ball with this thread. I'll match you like for like .I'll have to dig deep and have a look for that one of you on Foel Boeth ( Arenig ).Remember when you were walking like you'de been on the lash all day.

I thought that location looked familiar ... it looks like the face of someone who's realised it's not a bad cycle track and they've not got a bike ;D

This made me laugh out loud! That's exactly how it was! There was over 5 miles of this from Swarkeston to the city centre, I'd have rather there'd been a mountain in the way.
(I'll be entering again in January, except this time I plan to run it...)
Ruthr's looks rather glamourous, really.
AJ, I think you're correct about your general demenour!
(And how can we ever tell if Max is fatigued, or has simply fallen over again?)

Now now Ruth, you know there's a far more appropriate FoF photo of you from that holiday! I'm thinking of one taken on the walk we did starting at the Crimea Pass. You gonna post it or shall I? ;)

My excuse is that I don't get paid for what I know, or even how much I do! I get paid for how long I can do it without killing anyone! :D
Look knackered!? 4 years of driving for a living have left me looking nearer 40 when actually I've more than a year to go before I'm 30! :-\

I've seen you walk uphill, and I don't believe you need the 'training'.

Ha, that was only to keep an eye on the muddy-bum gang (i.e. the kids!), intent on racing their way up the boulder field. That was towards the end of a 10 day holiday of hillwalking too, so I was probably a bit more hill fit.

I am very glad that are no pics of my face when I peered over the top of that very path after I'd just crawled up it. A mess in no way describes it ;D .

I didn't take my boots off there. It might be the gaiters that make it look like my socks or something ;) . I am not sure I would have been brave enough to do that or I probably would never have got them back on again and that was only half way through the day. ;D

This was me last year, after I did a group walk of 13 miles on the Saturday, then did a sponsored walk of 13 miles, most of it ran, starting at 10pm on the Saturday night. Cream crackered but happy, ha ha.

Looks can be deceiving. Looks like butter wouldn't melt in her mouth, doesn't she? ;) She can be a right bolshey breeches and, in fact, we do call her "Bolshey Meg" ;D
And Catbells, I nearly missed your comment. Sorry. We are in North Essex. We have "relatives" in Shoebury and Gt Wakering so not far from you. :) (Isay 'Relatives" as they are the ex's auntie and uncle but I have remained friends with them :) )

Only just spotted this, i thought i'd got away with it TBH. I thought the one at the western stone might make it onto here but fortunately not! It's a proper [censored] the LWW as it is supposed to be in essence, but i'm going to do it one last time travelling W-E ,with support, in summer and after a long dry spell......

It's not my normal look! I'd been suffering from a sinus infection, had no sleep and no energy, and walked 11 miles in the heat and ................
collapsed! ;D

Once you've done it that's it, but more people will be drawn to you not wanting your photo on then the more attention it will bring. ???
-
Nah I don't do photos, I've got a couple on my facebook page and that's all there is. My mum's probably only got between 10-20 photos of me as an adult. I did ask sleepy and poppy pj not to take any photos of me. Then I relented and got one for my mum :)
-
There's also the ritual 'Brucie' photos thread that you'll also need to par take also ;D
-
Nah I don't do photos,
I'm with you on that one, always behind the lens & not in front of it, I think the problem stems from my school portraits always being returned. :-[
-
Since I've put on weight I refuse to have my photo taken and the only reason I relented was my mum would have been really upset not seeing me on the top of Mam Tor.
I love the Brucie photos, I've read the whole thread :)
Oh Mad :( I wish there was a hug smiley xxxx
-
I love the Brucie photos, I've read the whole thread :)
You've too much time on your hands ::) ;D
Come and clean my windows for me if you want ;D ;D ;D
-
I don't have a telly so I'm online quite often in the evenings and flit from facebook to here and then some other forums :) If I could be bothered to tidy my craft room I'd be sewing but I'm being lazy lol.
-
my craft room
You said the magic words! My dining/living/bed rooms are pulsating with ribbons, buttons, paper, paints & the like & when my kids go sniffing near any of the stuff I turn into Freddie Kruger :knuppel2: ,then they run like little kittens to the safety of the Disney Channel. ;)
-
i think my picture is enough to put anyone off lol ... sorry i was hurting! :) :) :)
-
Cause I like being part of this forum and have enjoyed looking at everyone else's photo, I thought I'd let you see a knackered me at the top of Mam Tor. This photo will self destruct after 1 day ;D

Nice to put a face to the name Sparkle and you shouldn't be unhappy with that photo, its really nice O0
-
Looking good Sparklebug 8) and not the least bit knackered, love the shot - I have got Mam Tor on my list of 'to dos' for this year - it looks wonderful O0
-
Thanks, I always tense up when I have my photo taken. I couldn't believe how cold it was up there so Snowdon must have been utterly freezing!
-
Snowdon was cold but we were fine - someone famous said something like, there isn't any such thing as the wrong weather, just the wrong clothing......the gear you wear is important, and something close to everyone's heart I think - in more ways than one ::)
-

Unless someone quotes your post....... :-\
Is it me, or are your walking poles set too long - esp the one in your right hand ??
-
Most probably lol, it was the first time I used them and just had them where I felt comfortable. How long should you have them? I suffer with lower back problems so didn't want to use them like a walking stick sort of bending over iywim.
-
General rule of thumb as I understand it - arms by sides, elbow bent at 90 degrees. Hold the pole in your hand and it should go vertically down from your hand to the ground (so yes, yours look a little long). Most poles have length markings on them so you can make a mental note of the length and then you can just set them straight to that length on future occasions.
p.s. don't be too harsh on yourself. There is no prize for getting to the top of the hill first. Take as much time as you need and enjoy it. I went walking in the Lake District for the first time last year. Drove up the M6 and caught sight of the mountains and thought "****, am I going to walk up them?!" - the downside of living in the flatlands of East Anglia. The next day I walked up Fairfield. Wasn't quick, got over taken by everyone (pensioners, tourists in trainers etc) but I made it to the top in my own time and really enjoyed the views (when I wasn't in the clouds). Can't wait to get an opportunity to back.
-
just had them where I felt comfortable.
Then it sounds like you had them about right!
There's umpteen Youtube videos on the subject, you know when you're getting it right, because it feels like you're really whizzing along with very little effort.
-
nice to see you in the flesh so to speak Sparklebug :)

Give me a minute will ya

Brilliant picture, where are you? pardon my ignorance but why is there a chimney sticking out of the mountain? are you on top of Gimli's roof :)

O0 What he said. You wanna see me going uphill. It's a joke (except I never see the funny side). Go at your pace and get there when you get there.

On top of Helvellyn, trying not to look as exhausted as I really felt

Not all has tired, sweaty looking faces but still left a smile on my face while turning the pages next after the other. I just love looking at your photos... O0

In Taiwan...... climbed 2000 feet up from the Taroko Gorge, dazed by heat and jet-lag, traversed a cliff on the Zhuliu Old Road, found bench where we hit the end of the open section, and passed out.
On the way down I woke up and it really was, very, very spectacular.....

From September last year. Carlisle to Cleveleys. I left my car at my friends house, train to Carlisle and walked back. 110 miles, six days.

No wonder you were tired :) I couldn't do half that distance in six days.

That's really impressive - I bet you enjoyed that well-deserved cuppa on the table once you'd recovered enough to drink it! :) O0

Thank you.
Carlisle to Mosedale 19 miles.
Mosedale to Patterdale 18 miles.
Patterdale to Bowness 15 miles.
Bowness to Milnthorpe 16 miles.
Milnthorpe to Morecambe 16 miles.
Morecambe to Cleveleys 26 miles.
I like to work on an average of 19 - 20 miles a day, I could easily keep this up when I first started. Now ten years down the line, I find that my body is still capable of doing that but I have hit a plateau with boredom. I probably need to walk in different parts of the country for a change of scenery.

Hi Ilona, do you still walk your long distances.? I have been out of action for a four months and only just getting back into things. I have done two eight milers, but found after 6/7 miles, I was tiring and am not sure if its because I`m out of condition or its other factors such as boredom as you mentioned...? Possibly it`s a combination of things with me (I`m 65 next birthday) & I may keep it to 5 miles for a while until I feel stronger..how is your walking nowadays...did you get to see any different scenery.....best..Geoff
