We couldn't think of an excuse quick enough so we found ourselves agreeing to a trip to Scotland with Karl and Sooz
Sooz was staying in the YH and us three were camping, we walked from the Glen Nevis YH and found a nice pitch after about 30 minutes. We ended up coming back here the next two nights to pitch.
Beefy and The Drift in Glen Nevis
A rare moment when Karl was actually still awake
Next day we went up Ben Nevis using the tourist path or mountain track.
Our lunch time view at the half way point. It was sunny and very hot. It was a bit hazy so not great for long distance shots
Sooz on the snow slope
The view from near the top of Ben Nevis
Despite the heat, lots of snow on the summit
The terrible trio on Ben Nevis summit
Tower Ridge, can you spot the climbers?
The highest snow bunting in the UK, on the top of the old observatory
We returned the same way we'd come up. The mountain track is long but the gradients are easy. It was so hot on the way back down and I think we were all suffering with heat stroke when we got back down to the valley. Not what we expected coming to Scotland! We collected our gear from Sooz's car and walked to the same pitch from the night before. Karl fell asleep almost immediately
Next day it was more of the same extreme heat as we walked into Glen Nevis
A rather disconcerting sign at the start
The path did go along the side of a big drop into the gorge for a short time, we could see why the sign was there but you could keep well away from the drop.
An Steall waterfall
Our lunch spot view
We thought this mountain was An Gearanach
We started walking back again. We stopped to cool off in the river for a while, the heat was so intense along with the humidity it totally sapped your strength. But this is Scotland, we were thinking! We were lucky by the time we got back to the car it had just started raining but it had stopped when we were pitching our tents later. Karl fell asleep straight away again
Next day we visited Fort William before we got our train back home
The view down the loch at Fort William
We got some good views from the train
Anyone know what this interesting mountain is called?
A brilliant few days, we weren't expecting the heat
Thanks to Karl and Sooz, what a good few days we had
