4 hours ? Blimey Paul, what distance had you planned to cover ? How is Midge performing?
-
We did about 17 or18 miles.
That was the first of about 60 Days.
Tday the stoms are here. No more posts for a few days. Out in the wilds.
Midge is doing fine.
-
You and Midge are an inspiration to what's possible in spite of obstacles. It breaks my heart that Midge can no longer see the great countryside in which he roams, but at least with you at his side he can still get out and about. So all power to the both of you, and I look forward eagerly to reading about your exploits. Brett, Molly and Sam send their best wishes to Midge and hope he finds plenty of mud to roll in. 8)
-
Good luck Paul & midge hope the weather behaves will keep an eye on the Blog O0
-
Tough going the last few days. 30 to50 mph headwinds every day all day. Snow, hail one morning the tent was frozen to the ground. I only have light summer gear. Spent last night, my birthday, in a fantastic bothy. Over 100 Miles done. 1100 to go. All pics are on facebook. Sorry!
-
Happy Birthday O0 wish I could give you good news on the weather but forecast is not great. hope you can still enjoy it
-
Hi guys,
lost my dog last year so I hope midge is doing well. when you get a moment could you give me an idea of what the flow country route is like. I plan to do jogle next year to finish on my 60th birthday and the Scottish section is the one giving me trouble to plan.
best wishes
John

We are on the GGW. Have had to slow down, going to fast for my bnb in fort bill so refuelling in fort Augustus. Weather warmer. Midge going really well. We both are s bit thin so need to eat more. So far it is fun!
I can give info on flow country our route was good in better weather it would have been great.
-
Good to hear from you, pleased it is going so well and you are both OK.
-
Best of luck. Lots of love to Midge O0
Ilona
-
Yes, well done to you both so far O0
Take care of yourselves!
Tracey :)
-
something I'd love to do once... ::)
Looking foward to reading your adventure O0
Are there any advantage of doing in that direction? spring is going up from South to North....It seems better starting in the South at this time of year...or perhaps, you love the snowy scene ;)
-
Weather for the next week rubbish! It looks like we will be cold and wet. If anyone is doing the WHW look out for us, we can have a mutual moan.
-
Being damp in a damp tent with a damp dog, nothing quite like it is there.
-
I met up with Paul & Midge this morning and descended the Devils' Staircase section of the WHW with them. I set off hoping to meet them and was very pleased I did.
They are going well although a little weather beaten! Midge certainly runs around a lot!
I enjoyed chatting and know Paul was pleased to up with another forum member.
If you get the chance, look out for him - he will enjoy a bit of company.
He will be camping the far side of Rannoch Moor if all goes well tonight.
-
Thanks for the update Sparnel, glad they're going well, inspirational stuff as always.
Hope to be doing the walk myself one of these days so will be interested on that flow country route too
Les
-
We are having s lazy day today. Just walked from milarrochy to just below drymen. Taken out time. More than 300 miles done. Great to meet Bill the other day. The weather has been very rough, lots of snow and very cold at night but we are keen to carry on, it is great - except for the mud!
-
fantasic paul you doing great hows the little 4 legged freind doing wats whw like im on there next fri onwards camping O0 r u still sticking to your schedule keep going pal O0 dave
-
We are bang on schedule. WHW was very busy. Midge is doing great, last night someone gave him a huge bowl of roast chicken. He scoffed the lot even though he had already eaten.
Got interviewed and photo taken by Scottish Sun; our story will be in the paper on Sunday!
-
Impressive stuff. Midge must be one hell of a dog. O0
-
Hi Keep your eyes open for 2 x 19 year old lads they are aiming for 61 walking days plus 8 rest days (very ambitious) but they were being slowed down by illness when they passed through Byrness 2 days ago. If you are following the same route you should pass them soon. Joyce
-
Paul & Midge,
One step at time, or as the MexicanŽs say Žpoco a poco" and youŽll be home in no time.
Great to hear youŽre going well.
Thanks for the advice about walking with my dog, Zen..Got most planned and we will be walking the PW South to North (June 5th-23rd) so hopefully weŽll pass you and get the chance for a chat. O0
Cheers & good luck,
Ian & Zen
-
Hi Paul, Midge`s food arrived at Byrness this morning. See you soon. Joyce & Colin
-
I took down a dry tent and walked in the sun today to Jedburgh. The day before we were nearly washed out when the campsite I'm Innerleithin.
Midge was ill in Peebles and had to see the vet but he is on the mend. The Two Rivers vet practice did not charge for the consultation and contributed to our justgiving page.
Looking forward to Forest Lodge and the PW.
-
Hi Paul
Sorry to hear Midge has been poorly, I've no doubt he'll bounce back. Enjoy the Pennine Way, I hope the weather improves for you as you move south.
Les
-
Midge is in fine fettle and he has been as good as gold while Paul has had dinner and a few drinks, lemonade of course (as if). They are off to Bellingham tommorrow. Joyce
-

Thank-you kind sir. Joyce & Colin
-
In Alston now weather has been good. Forecast not good. Still enjoying it all. Every day is another walk in lovely scenery.
-
At tan hill. Seeing the missus for the first time in a month. All going well except the lousy weather.
-
Glad it's going well for you. Weather better at weekend they reckon
-
best of luck mate....//
-
YouŽre doing great Paul. O0
keep it up.
I'm all prepared myself to start PW on Wed 5th June..
My bag is already heavy with all the hopes of good weather that IŽm bringing.
Hope to bump into you, though you're really moving so I think youŽll be gone by the time I get to Edale on Tuesday..
Needless to say, IŽll look out for you.
Ian & Zen
-
We will be going from crow den to Edale on 5th so look out for us.
-
In pub near Hebden Bridge. A hot day today with more to follow. Quite a change from the previous month!
-
Hoping to see you two on Wednesday, somewhere between Snake Summit and Edale.
There's a lot of folk rooting for you.
I'm the old git with two walking poles...hang on, there's loads of those!!!!
(old gits, that is.)
-
Keep going paul u do a great u nearly halfway now
-
I met Paul and Midge near Kinder Downfall this morning. They were making good time, looking fit and cheerful.
It's amazing to see Midge make his way along a rugged path - his blindness doesn't stop him, and I'd guess we were walking at 6kph. Apparently rough descents are the worst terrain, and stiles are a bit of a pain.
I think it's great that Paul and Midge can enjoy such a walk together and raise money for a worthy cause. I'm imitating Bob Geldof when I say, "Give until it hurts!" (Please note that I used one of Bob's more quotable utterances, but if you remember some of his other outbursts, well, you know what you should now do...). Anyway, here's the link

-
Lovely to see Stottie on Kinder. We are in Macclesfield on the way to Shropshire. Great weather, going across all the bogs and keeping dry boots seemed like cheating!
-
Great to read about your progress. Hooray for dry feet over the bogs, that's not cheating O0
-
The worst walking so far, a tedious ramble on the South Cheshire Way. If I ever say I am going to walk the entire route you know it is time for a one way ticket to a Swiss clinic. Boring, mad cows, barbed wire and nettles. I hope for better tomorrow.
-
If it was all lovely you wouldn't appreciate it.
OK perhaps you still would.
Hope it gets better for you.
-
In Stourport just about to start the Severn way. The weather has changed but we have enjoyed a week of good weather.
800 miles done so it seems doable.
-
Bushwhacked the Severn way, thigh high grass wet and tiring to walk through. It will be even worse in s few more weeks. Now near Slimbridge with the end of the Cotswold way. Really looking forward to the swcp.
-
Good to hear, I'm sure the SWCP will be more to your and Midges liking O0
-
Following with daily interest. You are doing just great.
-
Hope you both enjoy the SWCP O0 .....and hope the sun shine while you're on it! 8)
Take care
Tracey :)
-
Boots have failed after not much mote than 250 miles. The lining has separated from the outer and the boots are filling with water. Need to buy a new pair. Merrells are crap!
-
Hi Paul,
That midland areas seems to be the least inspiring section, everyone seems to say the same, I guess that shouldnt come as a surprise really.
Bad luck re the boots, if they only lasted 250miles what were you wearing before ? I assume you changed over to them 600miles or in ?
Amazing that our gear falls apart like that and the dog plods on au naturel !! How are Midge's pads coping ?
Les
-
We had a dog called Henry staying with us last week and he had little boots for his Pennine way. (he also brought his humans with him for map reading purposes like midge did) Joyce
-
Midge's pads are wonders of nature and going strong. I had Asolo s but they failed before Tan Hill. Going to get née boots tomorrow.
-
Now just the other side of Barnstaple, lousy weather and visibility over exmoor. Now on the SWCP proper, only 200 miles to go!
-
This is brilliant. You're rattling through it.
-
Excellent.
You're into the best walking since the Yorkshire Dales (in my opinion) but some punishing successive ascents and descents - hey ho, that's coastal walking.....
Tremendous scenery from Hartland Point southwards.
Good luck from me, and from everyone to whom I mention your names...including one couple who live near you - small world!
Best wishes
Stottie
-
Yes Stottie a couple I see regularly when walking Midge. We have done the Hartland bit and are off to Bude tomorrow. It esd tough especially in the teeth of s head on gale. Here's hoping for easier things.
-
Better weather forecast for the coming week, should help the end of your walk O0
-
Well done Paul and Midge. I have put a post on my blog about you, hopefully getting more people to visit your blog. I look forward to your final report. Lots of kisses for Midge.

Less than 100 miles to go. If you want to sponsor us go to
Www.justgiving.com/PaulandMidge
We are walking for Hounds for Heroes who provide assistance dogs for injured military personnel.
-
Done. You'll be sad when it's all over ... ;)
-
After the north Cornwall coast I have the thighs of Chris Hoy and the upper body of Gollum. Only two more days and we will have finished. I am not sure how I will feel. I have a week walking (what else?) Planned with the missus then back to reality.
-
That is a great effort. How many days walking? Did you take any days off? Sorry to sound nosey but two months roughly to do this is really good. How many miles was your route roughly?
I have it at the back of my mind to do this next year. Like you ; north to south. Don't imagine I could do this pace though.
Best wishes
John

I've been wondering how you two will feel about returning to whatever passes for normal in your lives.
I can't stop admiring Midge and you, having seen you walk the rough paths of Kinder Scout.
Brilliant job, and very well done.
-
1200 Miles and I think 64 days. Two days off because my wife had booked me bnb but I was going too fast so had to kick my heels. It has been great and I will be writing a full trip report in due course.
-
Well done to you both!!
You know what we will be doing next year, now don't you? JOGLE. I vowed I wouldn't do it the other way round when we reached the end, but once we were back a while I started getting itchy feet - specially now Mark kept reading me your blogs! ;D
we are sooooo glad that both you and the 'fluffy one' are sooo nearly done! When you first talked about doing this, a couple of years ago, I never dreamt that you would be doing it with Midge after what the vet had said in the past so I am incredibly amazed at the fella's staying power. O0
-
Good job, well done! Looking forward to reading your trip report.
-
Hi Paul & Midge,
Absolutely fantastic that you've nearly finished, and probably have when you read this. O0
I cannot imagine how tough it is to just keep going.
You were flying when you whizzed past me and Zen on Kinder Scout, on my first day on the Pennine way (I have since finished) .
When you get to Lands End..remember to stop! the legs will still want to keep going. ;D
look forward to reading about it and seeing some photos.
Superb, well done, :D
Ian & Zen
-
We finished at 12.50 today, and then went for a walk with my wife. What else!?
-
A big well done ... hope you've raised a good amount, and I'm sure in any case you enjoyed the walk :)
-
VERY well done! O0
Pity we have no applause to send you!
-
Delighted for all three of you. Well done indeed.
-
Well done to Midge and his map reading pal. Joyce & Colin
-
Well done Paul & Midge, O0 looking forward to trip report & pic's

Well Done indeed..so impressive
