We slept in on Sunday and we didn't start our walk until 11.15
Very late for us. We drove eastward and parked in the small layby at Caw Gap on the Hadrians Wall path. We walked eastward on the up/down/up/down path.

Looking back at our route along the wall
It was sunny but breezy and the wind was right in our faces. We could see fresh cow pats and we were keeping an eye out for any cows. There had been a very old warning sign at the start saying walkers could deviate from the right of way if they wanted to avoid any cows, then rejoin it when the cattle had been passed. We spotted cattle to our left on the other side of the wall. Phew we thought until we came to a gap in the wall that didn't have a gate. The cows didn't show any interest in us or Squeaky though so we continued without any bother. It is the not knowing how they will react that is the worrying part, you just never know. If the cattle had been aggressive we would have had nowhere to go so the advice to deviate from the right of way was meaningless!

We continued along the wall path to the road at Steel Rigg then turned left then right at the right of way toward Hotbank by the Peatrigg Plantation.

At Peatrigg we sat on the west side of the wall to have some lunch and we had a nice view of Sycamore Gap and the hundreds of people on that part of Hadrians Wall, always very popular.

After lunch we retraced our steps back to the road and followed it westward toward Caw Gap. We thought there might be nice views of Hadrians Wall and we'd not been down the road before. It was up/down/up/down like the route along the wall path.
Going up!

We lost views of the wall path for a while though but we did have nice views northward and west.
Lovely views of Northumberland

The cows I mentioned earlier can be seen in the photo. It started to rain as we got into the car, how lucky were we to escape it!
Our route was Caw Gap - Winshield Crags - Steel Rigg - Peatrigg - Well House - Caw Gap. 5.2 miles with 235m ascent.
