Title: It's official Snowdon most visited summit in the Uk
Post by: Dyffryn Ardudwy on 21:14:51, 22/08/17
We all know how popular Snowdon has become, but it has even beaten the Eden Valley and Scaffell Pike to first place.
Even Pen Y Fan down in the Brecon Beacons, almost makes the top ten, which i do find surprising,
I would have thought certain lakeland peaks would have been far more popular.

I'm not surprised, it has got a railway to the top.
It would be good to have a link to the list as, apart from anything else, I would love to have an idea how they collected the data.

Sorry to be a pedant and bring numbers and stuff into this but it isn't official that Snowdon is the most visited summit.

It was the most downloaded route on the OS website which is not the same thing at all.

Thanks Percy, that is quite different.
I would think then it is more of a list of walks popular with people who don't regularly walk. I've never downloaded a walk from their website, has anyone else on the forum?

I think Edale beats it hands down if you tally them all up

I always have a problem with surveys like this. I once, on a course, had to read 'How to lie with Statistics' by Darryl Huff. I've never been the same since! It could be that the Snowdon marketing people, or other vested interests, have been cleverer than other marketing people, or other vested interests? In any case as Austin Powers said in one of his films "What's your point Vanessa?"

I think it's more a case of bad journalism from the BBC. The headline is misleading and the article compounds the error. The OS press release gives the correct story:

I wouldn't be so surprised about Pen y Fan, it's ridiculously busy, but there again it is the highest peak in southern Britain and easily accessible.
