Title: Heading to Edale Friday 2 nights camping and 2 hikes
Post by: stuartpb on 18:25:50, 30/08/17
I'm off to Edale on this coming Friday for a 2 night camp, stopping at Fieldhead campsite. I'll be leaving Doncaster earlier than I usually do (0538hrs train) as Northern Rail staff are on strike. The Sheffield to Manchester train isn't running on Friday, the only train that is stopping at Edale is the East Midlands Sheffield to Liverpool train. It'll get me in for just before 7am.

I've got two walks planned. One is Kinder Scout and the other is Mam Tor/ Rushup Edge. I've been to the Peak District loads of times but have never walked Mam Tor so it'll be good to do something different. On the Kinder walk I'll be keeping an eye out for likely wild camping spots for a few winter camps I've got in planning. I've got 2 full days so I'll be taking my time on the walks, hopefully taking photos along the way if the weather is good. No point rushing to end up being stuck in the tent.

I think it'll be too warm for this trip but I'm taking my new Alpkit SkyeHigh 900 down sleeping bag to try out, I've been itching to try it out since I got it. Like a kid with a new toy!! ;D  Can't wait to get out again, I've been really lazy since I done the Snowdon walk a few weeks ago, we had a family camping trip but there wasn't much walking happening on that.

Thanks, looking forward to it. I love walking Kinder but Mam Tor will make a nice change.

I'm sure you know that Mam Tor and the Great Ridge get very busy at weekends, especially if the weather is good. I'd set off as early as possible if I were you, if only to avoid having loads of strange folk in your photos!
Kinder wont be that quiet either I suspect, depending on which ascent you choose.
The weather looks good for Friday/Saturday so far 8)
