Camping in North Yorkshire
« on: 13:08:56, 17/04/15 »
Can anyone recommend a campsite in North Yorkshire? Me and the missus are wanting to go for a couple of nights when the weather picks up a bit, somewhere near a village (pub grub etc) with plenty of walking to be had. We were originally thinking Whitby, but really don't mind. We would be on public transport though so a nearby train station or bus links would be handy! I know, we don't want much :)

Hi, you can get a train from Pickering to Goathland, where there are a couple of campsites close to the village  :) :)

To be honest you will struggle with public transport on the moors. We have the moors bus but its not that great. You would be best off in the northern parts like Glaisdale, Egton,Lealholm, Danby etc as they are connected to Whitby via the railway but also the moors bus.
The Postgate at Egton Bridge is probably the best pub around but cant think of a campsite. Im sure there will be one in Egton Bridge though.

The walking is endless really, particularly in the summer as you could walk to any one of these villages and get the train back.
Rosedale has a good campsite with 2 pubs (3 again soon) in the village. There is a bus that goes through Rosedale but not very often. Your best bet would be a taxi from Pickering.

There are a few campsites (or places to camp) on the Cleveland Way between Whitby and Scarborough. Or, just before you get to Scarborough there are a couple a tad inland from the path. One is quite close to "The barn" which is a handy eating house. Scarborough is just a bus ride or Taxi ride away.

I think somewhere in the region of Whitby/Scarborough/Robin Hood's Bay looks promising...

In Whitby broadings farm bout 1.3 mile out of Whitby but on major bus route. Pub just up the road 2 mins walk can't remember name.
