Interesting post from Glossop MRT, for those of you who like wearing shorts on the hills in winter.

Got frostbite many many years ago on ops with the Norwegian army.  We were  well above the snow line on skis in temps down to -25 and out for a multi day trip. Must have let my face mask slip at one point without realising it and it left a crescent shaped piece of flesh exposed below my goggles.  Only spotted after we'd bivvied up for the night, thankfully was only very white and hard, recovered after a few hours in the relative warmth of the tent.

Only had it once - in June, in UK.  Taught me to be more careful around liquid nitrogen.

I got frostnip once on the equator, I was climbing Point Lanarna on Mount Kenya. I was carrying an ice axe and didn't realize I had a hole in my glove until I came to change hands and found my thumb frozen to the axe head. That was 36 years ago, I've still got the scar.
