Saturday's walk saw me take in two of the central Mourne peaks, Pigeon Rock and Slievemoughanmore. Starting from Dear's meadow, I followed the wall to the summit of Pigeon. As I approached the summit, I was engrossed in thick cloud which thankfully lifted, affording great views of Spelga Reservoir and Rocky mountain. The only drawback of this region is the terrain: it is very marshy. I followed the wall to the next summit of Slievemoughanmore which offers the best aerial view of any Mourne valley IMHO. As cloud rolled in again, I retraced my steps to the Mourne wall where I had lunch. I only saw four other walkers the whole day. Total distance was approximately 7.5 kms.
