Thanks, enjoyed that..
Braithwaite wifes hole.. that name means nothing actually. It is a corruption of the original name, a one stage this was 'barefoot wifes hole'. I'm fairly sure I read something even earlier which didn't involve 'wife' at all either. There are several other references to 'wife' in the area. Batty Wife Hole being one. A man named Batty drowned his wife in the stream going in the hole..

Just read your blog Dave.  I really enjoyed that, and you took some excellent pictures.   We are in the Dales at the moment,  and we haven't had a day without rain ever since we arrived on 3rd June. We saw the Flying Scotsman too, last Tuesday.  It went speeding through Garsdale station while we were waiting on the platform.  It must have been doing 70 - 80 mph.  We weren't expecting to see it so I didn't have time to get the camera out.

Liked the TR and the blog Dave, and was particularly impressed by your timing.  I remember being alternately depressed and amazed at the number of people who came running past me as I staggered the last couple of miles, obviously determined to get in under the 12 hours.
And I was interested in your comments on the naming of the wife hole, Peter.
