B&B - Ambleside or Keswick areas
« on: 18:42:13, 08/07/17 »
After a gap of 17 years I'm planning a trip to the Lakes around 11 September.

Looking for inexpensive bed & breakfast for about 4 or 5 nights. Location doesn't really matter as I will have the car with me.
Not looking for luxury - as long as it has a bed, a bog and a shower and is within lurching distance of a pub it will do.
Also looking for one nights accom near Malham Cove on the way back.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks muchly

Good choice, we're heading up there for a couple of weeks on the 9th Sept - the prices seem to drop dramatically in that week as all the schoolkids are back at school around then, but the drawback is that because its an NP they remain a bit steep - Last time I B&B'd there with a car I looked for cheaper prices in places just outside the park say in Penrith or Kendal as they were about 20% better value. Maybe try a Youth Hostel?

I stayed in the Ambleside YHA, had my own room, it was good!

The Keswick YHA is recommended, good location within stumbling distance of plenty of pubs. I've stayed recently for £29 pn for en-suite room. Cheaper even still are the dorms.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like the YHA fits the bill especially at their prices.  :)

I had never really considered it: thought it was for young people rather than an old fogey.

Now to work out my walking plans. Wainwright guides about to come out of the attic.

We stayed at Miresfield Farm in Malham on the Pennine way last year. Not the most modern but it was clean and they were friendly. More suited to walkers than tourists as you couldn't describe it as luxurious. I think it was quite cheap too.

Thanks RR. That could well be the missing piece in the jigsaw.  O0

If you're considering youth hostels, don't forget that there's one in Malham as well  O0

Unfortunately the YHA didn't work out in either Keswick or Ambleside. Non availability of single rooms or £45 per night. Found a B&B in Keswick - single with en-suite £38 including brekkie and with a packed lunch option.

That's me sorted.  O0
