Place fell circuit
« on: 19:01:06, 08/08/17 »
Having only climbed Wansfell Pike in the FE fells, I've always wanted to venture further in this region. I traveled to Patterdale on Saturday morning on the 208 service and thereafter caught the 508 service to Hartsop. Light rain showers greeted me upon arrival. After getting the waterproofs on I ascended on a good track to Boardale Hause. Visibility improved and the showers faded as the day progressed. Upon reaching the Hause, I turned left making my way to the summit of Place Fell. When planning a walk I always prefer an A to B walk or circular instead of 'to there and back again.' I headed in the direction of Ullswater. For the final stretch, I picked up the Ullswater way back to Patterdale. Ullswater way seems a very popular trail. I encountered a lot more walkers on this stretch than I encountered on Place fell. Is that trend normal? Total distance was approximately 9 miles. I got the 208 service back to Keswick with 2 minutes to spare. Why is this service so infrequent whereas Borrowdale gets 2 services every hour? Is Helvellyn from Patterdale not more popular than Great Crag from Rosthwaite? There, rant over ;D

Very nice henry O0  All those views seem strangely familiar  ;D
The lakeshore path is a very busy path as folk can use the steamer to make an easy but beautiful round

Great photos again.
I was going to put the same as Karl about people taking the ferry across and then walking back. I think that was my first ever Lakes walk.
Over hill, over dale. Thorough brush, thorough brier....
I do wander every where

Nice pictures,  and agree fully about the bus times - every two hours means either good timing to finish the walk or be prepared to sit in a pub for a while!

Great photos, Henry - especially liked the retrospective view of Boardale Hause and the ones of the High Street range & Helvellyn massif.  O0

Fab photos henry  O0 We walked up the Grisedale Valley on Saturday, the rain was worse there  :(
The shorepath is very busy, it is a lovely walk so it is no wonder.

Oh, the buses, don't get me started! The 73 from Keswick turns into the 208 from Keswick. Only on Saturdays this year. Workington have taken over running the 77 and 77A so we no longer have the daily 9.05 73/74 from Carlisle to Keswick in the summer, that bus turned into the 77 when it got to Keswick. It is sorely missed  :(
