Snow level

Hi
Planning on a walk on Saturday
Something like helvellyn or something similar that's easy to get to by car (already 2 1/2 hours away without miles of country roads to get to heart of lakes)
Anyone know what the snow level is like high up
Boots ok or is it crampon time?
Thanks

Crampons and ice axe required today on Helvellyn according to the hill top assessor.

Highest I went today was Calf Crag (537m) and could get away with just boots (and gators). It was more boggy than icy!!!
I understand that there is a lot of snow due tonight/ tomorrow so I’m guessing tomorrow wil be completely different.
cheers

Was a lot of snow high up, few parts seemed to be up to below my knee
Glad I brought my crampons, though could have gotten by without them.
How do I know this? Cos they broke 1min away from the top so had to make it back down without
