red pike query
« on: 20:42:12, 02/09/18 »
I'm thinking of climbing Red Pike from Buttermere via Bleaberry Tarn. Is the route straightforward or are there any technical parts? Is scree bad/an issue? Thanks, Henry

The path starts near the head of the lake and is stepped leading up through some woods. the path is straight forward if not steep!

At the top of the steps go through the gate and follow the zig zag path.  This is where the views across Buttermere open up and are beautiful. Keep following the path, there is only one until you get to the levelled area which then leads to the tarn.

I like a little spot to the left of the tarn between some rocks for a little rest just near the waters edge,  The path up to Red Pike is very clear and initially is good under foot.  After you reach the col for Dodd and Red Pike the path becomes a little more loose stones and the last 20 meters or so is quite loose scree but definitely passable.  I went up and down last year but in dry conditions.

Path leading up from Bleaberry Tarm yowards Red Pike.

Further up the path past the col.

Hope that helps.
