SALOMAN QUEST PRIME GTX
« on: 14:07:22, 14/08/19 »
I took my new Salomans out for a 24 mile ramble yesterday.
I suffered a lot of wear on my left outside ankle. I think it was due to the camber of the road flexing my foot against the cuff of the boot.
Anyone know of a fix?

Put some moleskin over the area being chafed.
Too little, too late, too bad......

Thank you for the advice. It has not caused a blister. It feels like a tendon has been hurt.

24 miles in a brand new boot is a long way! It would probably be more sensible to wear them in gradually over shorter distances.

If you read the "First Impressions" section of this review it would appear that you are not alone. https://outdoorsmagic.com/article/salomon-quest-prime-gtx-preview

Depending on where you bought them you could take them back and ask if they could ease that area of the boot for you. A couple of minutes using a rubbing bar is all it probably needs.

If you bought them online any decent boot fitters should be able to help you for a small fee.

Rubbing bar shown here at around 3:40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6zaZqeZadc

Thank you for the advice, KB.
I have had a closer look at the boots and they are not mirror images. The left hand one has less padding round the cuff, the upper cleat is further forward and it is pointing in a different direction compared to the right.
Saloman support have been very helpful and are reviewing my photos.
No way are they as comfy as my old INOV8 GTX 345s tho.

I have a pair of Quest's and find them supremely comfortable. However a few days ago I decided to take out my Sorbothane inserts and use my Superfeet inserts. A mistake!

Within a few hours, I had a blister on the inside of my right foot arch just on the edge of my Superfeets, a top edge which the Sorbothane doesn't have. I temporarily solved it by fitting a bit of folded plastic under the inside edge of the Superfeets, it just tilted my foot enough to create a tiny bit of space between my foot and the insert. I hope the following offers an alternative idea which might be useful to experiment with.

I discovered a few years ago, by trial and error and by using a sloping stretch of tarmac road near to me, that as I walked my left foot on impact tilts to the left and my right foot does the same but less so. This problem shows itself as increased sole wear along the whole outside edges of my boots.

I solved my problem by cutting, three, if I remember correctly, old trainer inserts longways and placed the best one under my Sorbothan inserts. In a single moment, my problem was solved. I did plan to go to a running shop and get my walking style analysed by computer/tread mill but I never got around to it. My boots now wear evenly because of this simple trick and I also believe that I now walk more comfortably. My problem is not noticeable when I buy new boots, it shows itself sometime later as my boots start to wear unevenly.

My recent walk problem was not caused by the Superfeets, it was because I forgot to put my half trainer insert in under the Superfeets before I set off.

Let's hope Salomon's Customer Support decide in your favour without playing silly b u g g e r s and making life difficult.

I don't generally hold much store by reviews but Salomon's reviews on Trust Pilot are truly shocking.

I should also point out that unless you bought them direct from Salomon your contract is with the retailer not the manufacturer so if Salomon don't play the game take your complaint to the retailer and insist they give you a replacement pair or your money back because of the manufacturing fault.

I was really after a fix from Saloman, rather than a return.
They seem very sturdy boots and apart from the fact the left one is very painful to wear, ideal....
I could always hop, I guess.

I once had to return a pair of Salomon Quest 4D boots to Saloman because they leaked! I was offered a new pair or a refund. I took the refund. No problems at all. I then bought a pair of Keene Targii 2s, they leaked as well, again a refund with no problem.

I am seriously considering buying INOV8 again, and taking Sealskinz for dew and rain.

I've just hiked 3 full days on the Two Moors Way and experienced lots of heavy showers on one day in particular. My son and his wife bought me a pair of Salomon quest's for Christmas. I've worn them since then, notably on a two-week hike from Keswick to Edinburgh in April. They were and are still wonderfully comfortable, but they have never really been tested in rain, not a speck on that hike.

I did wear them in rain once and suspected that they leaked, but because it was very warm at the time I convinced myself it was just hot feet/condensation.

However, I now know for sre that they LEAK LIKE A SIEVE! I set off from my first camp about 6 in the morning on Monday and had to walk through my first field of longish wet grass. Within about ten paces my toe areas on both feet were sodden! I could even feel the cold early morning water trickling though my toes! The water came in directly above my toes. When I took my boots off to have a look at my socks the area from my toenails to the arch of my feet was wet and my heel areas were dry.

It didn't stop me from walking comfortably but I did fear that my skin would go all crinkly and blisters would develop but nothing actually happened, I was fine, just had the uncomfortableness of feeling that my feet were steaming inside my boots. As the day wore on they went from feeling wet to just feeling hot and damp.

This is the second pair of Salomons that I've owned which have leaked, so I'm not happy with them as a company. For my feet in dry weather they are great and I love them to bits, but I'm going to send them back with a complaint of shoddy workmenship and/or false marketing? Whether I will demand my money back or take a chance of getting a pair that does not leak, I'm just not sure about yet.

My apologies, until this morning I believed that my Salomon boots were 'midi-Quests' but I now know they are 'Ultra 3 Midi' boots. I have no idea of the differences between the two models but I believe my comments are still valid. As I've stated before, I've owned a pair of Salomon Quest 4D GTX and they leaked, I now own a pair of Salomon Ultra 3 GTX and they leak!

Walk on the other side of the road.I used to do a lot of road racing and when training swapped sides after a couple of miles due to the camber having an adverse effect on my gait and causing injury. Not saying its the only cause of your problems but its certainly something to be aware of.

As I had no intention of emigrating so I can walk on the wrong side of the road to avoid ankle damage, I returned the boots; they have agreed to refund me. So now I am back to square one ;D

I bought a pair of Salomon Quest 4D GTX boots and they leaked badly after 4 months. I walked to Cotswold Outdoor (where I'd bought them) in the pouring rain and they were immediately replaced with a new pair. About 4 months later I returned my second leaking pair and put the refund towards a pair of Scarpa boots, which are brilliant!

My wife still uses her Quest 4D GTX boots even though they leak terribly. On any walk that might involve getting wet feet she now wears Bridgedale waterproof socks in them, and they keep her feet perfectly dry.
