Not too far from London
« on: 10:45:53, 13/08/07 »
Hi,

I'm looking for a weekend away to do some reasonably long walks (hills included!) but as close to London as possible to keep the travelling time down.  Can anyone recommend?

Huge thanks

How far is too far?

there are some suggestions in this thread for Kent http://www.walkingforum.co.uk/index.php/topic,474.0.html

The Chiltern Hills?

You could try the South Downs.    Also the North Downs but I've never done any of that.

My local training ground is the Chilterns which isn't too far out of London.    Over the years I think I've been over every inch of them, and they do have their own spectacular beauty especially in summer (when there is one).    The Chilterns is (IMO) quintessential England.
