Strid & Waterfalls
« on: 09:15:01, 05/09/08 »
On a day, like today (raining unceasingly) I ventured out into the Dales near Bolton Abbey and took these dramatic photographs. Hope you like them.

Best Wishes,
Mike

When I was a kid, people (aka mad people) used to jump the strid - some made it and others got very wet.

Does this craze still happen?

Alas they do, particularly youths in summer. Even when the Strid is flowing low a fall is always dangerous and often life threatening. The ones who still take on this craze might think again if they read about the tragedy of a honeymoon couple who both perished in 1998. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/217851.stm for a report on that incident that has never been fully cleared up. Probably one slipped and the other fell in trying to grab hold - agonising.
