Three Peaks - weather?!
« on: 23:10:11, 17/06/13 »
We are intending to walk the three peaks this coming weekend. We have maps, GPS and intend to walk from Horton, use the new bog avoidance section and make the most of the butty wagons.

Keeping our fingers crossed for reasonable weather. It'll be the first time for us and if it looks like constant rain all day, we will pull out and plump for our backup day.

I'm used to using Weatherline for Cumbria. Os there anything similar for the Dales? Or shall I rely on the met office app? Ay local first hand reports would be welcome, too. I'll def be checking out the Inglenorough webcam.

Thanks and wish us luck!

Well we were promised heavy rain for several days last week, and got one.
Fine and dry just now, I'll give you an update nearer the weekend. Could see all three clearly at 10pm tonight.

Thanks Peter. I hoped you might appear. According to my phone weather app, it's rain rain rain. Really hoping it doesn't materialise...

Warm and sunny today, with a nice cooling breeze. Sat for ages on Penyghent enjoying the sun.  8)

Mmm. I'm happy to look out of the window any time too.  Trouble is, I can't see PYG from here  :2funny:

Yes.  I'm not fit enough or fast enough to do all three in one day  :( ;D

Slightly off subject. I am doing a walk with the LDWA on Sat starting at Ribbleshead viaduct. Parking at the lay by. My van is unmistakable, got Kevin Wheatley and Blinds plastered all over the side of it. I have never yet met anybody off here so if you see me give me a nudge. I understand we will be leaving around 8.00 AM. Or, I am sure anybody could tag along if you wanted. 20-23 miles. Up and around Whernside/Inglebrough.

Weather update......
Bright and sunny this morning, a bit 'muggy' on Penyghent.
Ingleborough and Whernside were both hard to see in murky air.
Though still sunny this afternoon we have grey skies too. Forecast is heavy rain tomorrow, but it seems to be wrong each time so far.
The seaweed is dry and the swallows are flying very high...
Ok.. I don't have any seaweed, but the swallows are high. I know this means that the insects are high which indicates air pressure.. I'm guessing low pressure.
Anyway I'll leave it to those that understand such things to explain..
Another update later... LOL :coolsmiley:

Thanks for the update Peter - that weather forecast is not looking too hopeful.

Charlie, we'll look out for you, but as we are starting from Horton, we'll be a hill behind. I'll give the van a wave if I pass it.

Friday morning, dry with heavy low cloud. 100 yard visibility at low levels.
Not sure which is worst, rain and being wet or cloud and seeing nothing. You have all the effort and none of the reward.
But you have another day for change..

Thanks Peter. Would prob take the low visibility over the rain, but expect rain would impact on the visibility too.

The met office view has improved from heavy rain to light rain. We can but hope the wind picks up, blows the rain away, and a beautiful day appears... Ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Snow, sleet, hail and thunder with sunny spells..

Think we've had similar here today - up in Penrith preparing! If only the blue skies would last. I've been keeping an eye on the Ingleborough webcam and seen how the cloud has lifted today too.
