Hardcastle Crags area
« on: 12:49:39, 05/05/16 »
Yesterday I walked near Hebden Bridge, inc. the famous beauty spot of Hardcastle Crags, in Calderdale, meeting up with my mate who lives over that way. Many shops in Hebden Bridge were still undergoing renovation work following the winter floods, the town is still struggling!

somebody tried selling us a joke magazine here for £1, he was oughta luck! ;D

nice river stroll out of town

we stopped at Gibson Mill for refreshments, the coffee was £1.95 but really spanking. The cakes looked good but VERY pricey so we eschewed them, rather than chewed them! :(

we ended up on the moors at the valley end after missing the turn off, but a bit of cross country plod found us the road, then back down towards town.

anybody ID this flower?
On the return leg we happily stumbled across Midgehole WMC being open, summat I have never seen before! A couple of very good value pints followed in the May sunshine by the river......idyllic spot! Herbie (flying Herbert to his mates cos of his hobby) has a pic of us boozing, he may join the forum n post it.
Then back to Hebden Bridge for a pint at the Fo O0x and Goose, then train home for me.

Pics are fine? Periwinkle, or Vinca, the flower. We have them in our garden all round the edges (wild ones).
Nice pics, looks like a nice day out.

I've done fair bit of drinking in Hebden over the years Pleb and when walking my normal port of call is the stubbing Wharf just up the road. I can't recall the fox n goose though even though it's just down the road from the SW. Community pub it says on the web?

Did you hear about the pub that put its prices up during the flooding? Had to sell up I was told everyone stopped going in.

No not heard that.
The fox n goose is on the junction of the main road n the one going up to Heptonstall, it's nearer hbridge centre than the SW (which is still closed?) :-\
