A Birthday Bash and a Baboons Bottom

Tuesday 31st May 2011 - what a grand day out. Somebody (not me by the way, but I can't say who just yet) decided to celebrate a signifcant birthday by being born on this day, er 21 years ago if memory serves me correct
. Anyway, the celebration started off by seeing us meet up at Waterend, Loweswater and have a guided tour of, in the morning, Fellbarrow, Low Fell and Darling Fell before adjourning for lunch. The afternoon stroll saw us across the other side of Loweswater, taking the path to Iredale Place before heading across the flanks of Burnbank Fell above Holme Wood. The return to Waterend was through Holme Wood and Watson Place.
Beautiful sunny day with some very strong sunlight - guess who forgot his hat and suncream
. By 8pm I had a face resembling a baboons bottom - oh, and it was very red too
My first time on these fells and what amazing views unfolded
There were one or two steep ups and downs before lunch and then on the afternoon walk yet more wonderful vistas
All that was left now was to 'retire' to the Kirkstile Inn and enjoy the food and good company - oh and a piece of birthday cake too.

Amazing pictures and I am sure Uncle Grumpy would like the look of some of those 'biblical' clouds. Belated Happy Birthday to the 21 y.o.

Extra-ordinary weather on a birthday for sure, in a perfect place to celebrate; and what makes it all the better is the person to share it with.
The photo following "one or two steep ups and downs before lunch" was cut off in my browser(before I scrolled down), what later appeared as a path with people on it at first looked like a picture which had been creased (folded in half.) either that or a full page picture in a magazine. Funny bit of perspective illusion.
Did you take a celebratory pint afterward?

Great photos and TR
.
Certainly better weather in the Lake District than in North Wales over the weekend

Love the pic of Mellbreak at the end, and those views from Low Fell are superb, a cracking area of the lakes and usually very quiet too

I was up Mellbreak the day before and let's just say sun was at a premium.
You picked the right day.
